Advantages: The Stretchiest sides, Keeps baby dry, No sign of allergy/nappy rash
Disadvantages: Expensive, Can rip when putting on, Not environmetally friendly
This week I will be mostly writin about Pampers Active Fit nappies. The Spiel *********** Pampers Active Fit claims to provide a perfect fit nappy for your baby. This is due to the stretchiest sides (is that a word) you can buy and super grip tapes. Practical information *********************** The nappies are available in four sizes midi, maxi, maxi plus and junior AKA 3, 4, 4+ and 5. The size of nappy required is decided as usual by the weight of your child. The range covers form 9 to 55lb in old money. However, I will only be talking about the maxi version as they are the only ones we have experienced (15-40lbs). Price wise they are expensive at £8.99 for 46(around 18p each) even compared to Huggies super flex (the rival brand) however for sheer effectiveness they are worth it. The design ************* You may have gathered I am sold on this product but let me start to explain why. Design wise the packaging for the nappies is the usual plastic packed affair however, there is an easy tear side which makes life a lot easier when trying to hold your baby with one hand and rip open a packet with another (parents to be never do this!). My personal technique is to rip the packet open with my teeth (I am just that sort of guy!) but it tears open quite freely with the finger method. Now the fun part! All the nappies have pictures of a mummy or daddy elephant doing a variety of activities with their baby these include bread making, football and reading. The designs are all very colourful and evoke a traditional family feel, which the cynic in me sees as a marketing ploy but the feminine side of me sees as cute. With purple edges and plenty of colours I often find my child playing with them rather than wearing them! The important stuff! ********************** It all sounds very promising but what are they like when it comes to the small matter of poo and wee! Well
putting a fresh nappy on is easy enough. If you have the right size (very important to prevent leakage!) then the nappies are more than generous even for my chunky child?s bum and you can actually feel the give in the elastic as you tape the nappy together (two fasteners either side as usual). The great thing about these nappies is that there going nowhere! My child shuffles, crawls and walks along the floor without any evidence of slippage from the nappy. Absorbency wise the padding doesn't look up to much but I can GUARANTEE after having a 10-month-old with diarrhoea for a month it works. I have had no evidence of leakage and none of the "crap up the back" you get with many other brands. This is largely due to the bottom hugging sides and generous bum space. I have been able to confidently leave these nappies on through the night with no fear of a wet bed in the morning. Allergy wise my little un' has had little evidence of nappy rash or reaction and in fact her previous terrible rash has disappeared since transferring from another brand to this. My opinion(as if you hadn't guessed!) ****************************************** I swear by these nappies (and up the stairs and outside as well) they are very comfortable for my little darlin' and very absorbent. The chance of leaks is virtually non-existent and although expensive they are worth every penny. The only thing missing from this and most nappies in this size is the "wet indicator" you get in earlier models but as nappies go we have been using these for six months now and would never go back. An afterthought ***************** They are not environmentally friendly but then most disposables aren't. If you want to protect the environment use terry towellin but if you want a dry, happy baby and don't give a flyin' about the environment use these!

- 07/07/04 Disposable nappies are so much better now than they were when my son, now 24 was a baby. They were awfull and had no elastic in the legs at all, I always used terry ones. |
