Advantages: Thick, strong wipes with a moisturising effect.
Although I don't have a child I always have a packet of baby wipes in the house as I use them for many different purposes. I most often use them to wipe clean the ears, eyes and orifices of my pets. I also use them myself to freshen up my hands or face or to clean up minor spills if I'm on the go or stuck in a car, train or bus. Since I use baby wipes for these purposes I have never really thought about the qualities of the product and have usually opted for shop's own brand products. However, I recently had the chance to try these Pampers Sensitive Wipes for free and getting a pack of these made me aware that the quality and benefits of baby wipes can vary a lot from brand to brand.
I got a pack of 56 baby wipes and they were priced at £1. I thought the packet was quite large compared to the ones I usually buy which are about the same sized pack but with more wipes. This is due to the thickness of the Pampers wipes. The pack is white coloured and has the term 'sensitive' underneath the brand logo to distinguish it from the regular Pampers packs. The pack is printed with information about the product on the front, sides and back of the wrapper. This includes a list of full ingredients.
Pampers state these wipes are alcohol free and that instead they contain something they call "pure care lotion". They say the wipes "gently clean" and are perfect for sensitive skins. Looking at the ingredients informs me that they contain aloe leaf juice and chamomile flower extract.
The packet is fitted with a transparent seal on the top. You can peel this back to access the top of the pile of wipes, pull one out and then you can re-seal this sticky label. I've found that the label loses it's stickiness after a while although it's more effective than the smaller seals on other brand baby wipes I have used. Plucking just one wipe out of the pack is a bit difficult too and I usually end up taking two out and having to shove one back inside! Despite this I do think the packet is a lot better than the shop's own brand packets. The outer wrap is stronger and the seal is larger and more sticky which makes it more effective for longer.
One wipe is square in shape and measures 17 square centimetres. The material feels thick and soft, more like a clothing style material than throwaway cloth or paper. The softness and strength of the wipe is impressive. They are so superior to the cheap wipes I've been using. The paper is marked with a pattern of wavy lines and butterflies which is a nice touch and which is possibly a practical measure to ensure that the wipe holds more liquid. The wetness of each wipe makes each wipe feel like a facecloth that has been doused in water and then wrung out. A wipe holds a lot of liquid and after using you do feel rather wet. The wipes feel very damp but they do not drip unless you actually wring them out in which case a few drops squeeze out!
The wipes have virtually no fragrance to them at all. If anything there is a slight smell of talcum powder and cleanness. The liquid they hold feels just like water although you realise after you dry your skin that the liquid in the wipe makes your skin feel softer and moisturised.
They feel cool and refreshing on the skin and are a pleasure to use especially in hot weather. They are also effective at cleaning the skin. Make-up, for instance, comes off easily with a wipe. My dogs are also not irritated by any perfume smells as I'm using this on them! After using a wipe on yourself they can double up as a work desk cleaning cloth and they pick up dust, spills and crumbs very nicely!
The wipes cannot be flushed down a toilet and must be deposited in a waste paper bin instead. They have a shelf life of 3 months. Like most wipes I imagine they will dry out gradually from the moment you open the pack. I've had mine for a few weeks and they are still very wet and fresh.
I am very pleased with these Pampers Sensitive Wipes and will definitely buy them in the future even if they cost a bit more than my regular brand. I would certainly recommend these. I really like that they are so thick and strong and that they have a cooling, moisturising effect without containing any ingredients likely to irritate me.
You can buy these in supermarkets and chemists.
Summary: Have many uses. Feel great on my skin.
