Disadvantages: Made my granddaughter sore, leak within minutes of becoming wet, don't keep wet away from babys skin
I've read bad things about these Pampers Simply Dry nappies and have conditioned myself to avoid the 'orange pack' in the shop, however cheap they are compared to others in the Pampers range.
Last weekend my niece visited and gave me almost a full packet of them because her silly husband had bought size 5 when their baby is just seven months old, being infinitely more sensible than her husband she was aware that my granddaughter at two would be more suited to this particular size!
They look pretty much the same as any other Pampers nappy but on drawing one out of the packet I was instantly hit by the poor quality feel of them. They are visibly thinner than any of the other Pampers ranges and feel rougher to the touch too.
I decided to try them anyway during the day as I wouldn't be confident using such a thin nappy through the night. The fit is fine, she's in a size 5 at the moment but as she's a dainty little thing the other nappies in this size are a little bulky on her. I actually preferred the look of these as they hugged her shape well and she looked very comfortable in them.
Unfortunately, the fit is the only good thing about them. Within a few minutes she'd done a wee in the nappy and it swelled up to ridiculous proportions instantly, I could see even through her jeans just how large the crotch of the nappy had become but as she was happily playing I left it a little longer before changing her.
That was a silly mistake as not ten minutes after she'd wet the nappy I saw a telltale damp patch on her jeans which indicated the fact that the nappy had leaked already. Putting it down to the fact that she'd had an awful lot to drink that morning I changed her and popped a second Simply Dry nappy on her.
Another mistake. If let down by one nappy, don't use a second one from the same range. Classic schoolboy error. This one was a little more serious though as just after changing her I remembered I needed to go shopping so I bundled my granddaughter into the car and off we went. Remember that my granddaughter is over two years old now and nappy changes are not as regular as when she was small, I probably use just five or six nappies during the day as she is at the point where she is learning control of her bladder and bowels and not dirtying her nappies as frequently as a younger baby.
Coming out of Sainsburys an hour or two later she suddenly started crying, sobbing actually and saying 'owww, bum!'. I instantly knew it was the nappy and sure enough when I picked her out of the trolley her clothes were wet through and she was visibly very uncomfortable.
Going back into the Sainsburys and visiting the baby changing room I discovered that the skin on her bottom was wet, tacky and already beginning to look red and sore. This is after TWO nappies from this appalling Pampers range. I slathered her with Bepanthan cream and was forced to put another of the nappies on her as this was all I had, after calming her down we got back into the car and went home.
Now, the journey back to my house is only around twenty minutes and in this time she hadn't wet or dirtied the nappy yet when we got in her bottom appeared even more sore than it had been in the supermarket. She cried as I changed her which is very unusual for her and the skin on her bottom was a livid red colour, already becoming a full blown nappy rash episode when that very morning her bottom was as lily white as usual.
I blame both myself and the nappies. Myself because I had heard horror stories about this appalling Pampers range, I even recall commenting on a review on here words to the effect of a lady should complain to Pampers after these nappies left her little one suffering from Thrush as the rash became so bad after using these nappies. But more than that I blame Pampers. They know babies so much better than this, they are the company we mums and nans turn to when we're not sure exactly which nappy is right for our little one.
They have let us down badly with the Simply Dry range. They might be cheaper than other nappies in the Pampers range but they do not keep baby dry at all and there are too many stories about babies being left with sore bottoms after using these nappies to ignore. I am disgusted with them, my granddaughter was sore for around three days before the rash cleared up and this is disgraceful. I am in no doubt that her suffering was caused by these nappies and, frankly, I have lost an awful lot of respect for Pampers for producing such inferior products.
Perhaps they don't know, or care about, babies as much as they say they do.
Summary: Pampers have produced an extremely low quality nappy here and should withdraw them from the shelves.
