Advantages: Soft, Strong, They are actually quite long!

Disadvantages: Box is too bulky, And the sticker doesn't always stick

"Thick moist Pampers baby wipes - with a new mild lotion to care for your baby."

I was inspired to write this by an opinion I just read on Tesco Value wet wipes - the author was most displeased with that particular brand! I have tried and tested quite a range of wet wipes/baby wipes. I'd tried Huggies - was quite impressed but not enough to make them my 'regular' brand; Tesco's own (not Value) - very disappointed, they ripped with every wipe; Boots own - even more disappointed (to the point that I wrote a letter of complaint and got a £5 gift voucher in return), they were thin, they ripped and they were far too wet; and for quite a while I was using a 99p for 80 wipes, cheap and unknown brand, simply because of the price and the trouble I'd had so far with other 'better' makes. Then came the revelation! I shop at Tesco and on this auspicious occasion they were running a two-for-one offer on the Pampers Baby Wipes. They're really soft but still strong, they smell lovely, they clean well, they do what they should!
But I must admit, if you don't get these wipes with a voucher or BOGOF they are rather expensive - in Boots more so than Tesco.

OK, bit of a price comparison:-

Tesco:

Pampers Baby wipes 72 - In a plastic tub £3.59
Pampers Baby wipes 72 - Refill £2.28
Huggies Cotton Touch Wipes 64 - Refill £2.28
Johnsons Skincare Wipes 72 - Refill £2.27

Boots:

Pampers Baby wipes 72 - In a plastic tub £3.59
Pampers Baby wipes 72 - Refill £2.99
Huggies Cotton Touch Wipes 64 - Refill £2.99
Johnsons Skincare Wipes 72 - Refill £2.99

Both stores do regularly run Buy-one-get-one-free offers on wet wipes, but it changes from brand to brand. And obviously, even when they're not on offer, the more you buy the cheaper they are - Tesco do a box of 6 refill packs of Pampers wipes at $7.99 which would work out a lot cheaper than buying one or tw
o packs ($1.33 a pack actually!). Sorry about the dollar signs, they're meant to be pound signs but I can't find it!

Vouchers make these wipes much better value, and they are easy to come by if you're pregnant or have recently had a baby as there are several schemes you can sign up to, run by supermarkets or by the brands - e.g. Tesco clubcard, Tesco babyclub, and from Pampers if you're a website member (www.Pampers.com).

Obviously the best for baby's botty is water and cotton wool, that will almost certainly avoid any irritation or reactions, but baby wipes are far more convenient. To follow is a list of 'ingredients' in Pampers Baby Wipes (they don't really mean anything to me, but they might to you!!):

Aqua, Dimethicone, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Acrylates / Vinyl Isodecanoate Crosspolymer, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Parfum, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben, Polysorbate 20.

They all sound rather scary! But these wipes are 'alcohol-free', and my son has never, ever had any reaction from these wipes.

For me, the main contender for Pampers Baby Wipes' lead position is Huggies Baby Wipes. As you'll see from the list they're the same price in the two stores I compared, but in my opinion not as good. They smell nice and work well, they appear to be very thick but they're not really all that strong - they rip quite easily, and they don't consistently pull out one after the other dragging the next with them (as all good wet-wipes should) - if the next isn't dragged out it's very difficult to catch hold of it in the stack and you end up pulling a few out. Their main attraction is that they have a bag within a bag - a clear one inside with a little hole for the wipes to pull through, then a bigger bag that seals up with one of those plastic zip thingies - this eliminates the need for a tub (not that I use one, too big and bulky!) Bu
t what I've done is kept a Huggies zipper bag from when I used them, cut out the inner bag and I put my Pampers wipes refill packs in there and seal it up! It means you don't have to rely on the plastic sticker on top of the Pampers, nifty eh?!!

Pampers Wipes are made by Procter and Gamble, and their UK Freephone number is 0800 535 124! The Pampers Freephone is 1800 535 124, should you need a chat!
