Advantages: No or very little leakage, elasticated legs, resealable fasteners, impregnated with lotion, extremely absorbant
Disadvantages: A little expensive? Your baby may be allergic to the lotion
When out shopping for those most important 'essentials' before your baby is born the vast array of nappies available is enough to daunt any first time parent! Anyway being this dazed and confused first time parent I decided I probably couldn't really cope with washables and disposables seemed the best option. After many hours (well perhaps 10minutes!) standing in front of the nappy shelves in boots I decided on Pampers Premiums as there was a 3 for 2 offer available at the time. Well I suppose it was a good a reason as any! When I arrived home with my purchases, swearing I would have my nappies delivered from then on - no one warned me they were so heavy, I couldn't help opening a pack and having a peak. I was pleasantly surprised that the nappies weren't these big bulky plastically things I'd imagined but these soft almost cotton like extremely thin things. I found they had elasticised legs and resealable 'sticky' velcro like tabs. Even if you get cream on these tabs they are still resealable. This allows you to reposition the tabs until you get the nappy just in the right position. Now I know the backs are also quite 'high' so no leakage there. They also come impregnated with lotion as an added bonus. My baby has never had nappy rash due to these nappies, there was a mild case once but that was due to the wipes I was using. I have never actually brought any kind of barrier or nappy rash cream, perhaps a point to consider the extra cost of these nappies. Also once the baby was about 2 months old and very settled she never seems to dirty her nappy at night (its wet of course!). Due to the super absorbency of these nappies I don't think I've had to get up to change a nappy in the night since then. There has also never ever been an incident of wet sheets due to a leaked nappy either. There have been one or two incidents of leaked dirty nappies onto her clothes. Thi
s seems to generally occur when the nappy has shifted a little, for example when I moved her up from midi to the bigger size. However I really must say that these occurrences have been few and far between. I suppose the only bad point against them is the fact they are slightly pricier than other own brand nappies. Let us compare prices: Tesco ultra dry Unisex midi 38 : £4.78 Pampers Premiums mini PLUS 15 wipes : £5.65 Yes an extra two nappies and a pound cheaper but think of the extra nappies you would use due to leakage etc. Also these Tesco nappies aren't available in bulk but now with online shopping (use it if poss and have it all delivered nappies and all that other baby stuff weighs a ton and that is without the baby!) whereas Pampers are and this does make them a lot cheaper. Its not like if you buy loads your baby won't use them is it!! You can get 104 junior size Pampers Premiums for £17.49 Although I have never actually tried any other nappies I have never felt the need to as I have been so happy with the Pampers premiums. I can't believe I've just written that much about nappies!!
