My son Joshua is almost three years old, and like many children his age he loves Peppa Pig. We have a few different toys from the Peppa range which means he can interact himself with the characters he enjoys watching on television.
We bought this Peppa Pig Bath time Boat for Joshua at Christmas. He's always enjoyed bath time and never needed many toys to occupy him (give him a few plastic cups and jugs and he's in his element!) but because he loves Peppa so much it seemed like a good toy to invest in.
The packaging itself for the boat is very traditionally 'Peppa Pig'. As a character and television show, one of the appeals for pre-school children is the simplicity of the characters, set and general design. The packaging for this toy reflected this, which is great for smaller children (my son had just turned two at this time) because they recognise it and react to it. I bought mine in store so we didn't have any packaging damage, however I can imagine if bought online it does have the potential for the packaging to dent or damage because it's not the strongest packaging in the world-very flimsy. So my advise if you want a pristine gift or toy is to buy in store to avoid this.
There is no assembly required for this toy at all. It just needs removing from the packaging and is ready to go-a great feature for enthusiastic children!
The boat itself is made of plastic and has the trademark simple design. It features a deck area, with three cut out holes in for the characters to stand. The boat also has two flags, a railing area and an area for Grandad Pig to steer the boat. Also included are Peppa, George and Grandad figures. This is a big plus point for this toy as quite a few Peppa toys come with only one or two characters, which requires you to purchase the others separately. So I feel this adds value to the toy. The characters themselves are set on circular discs, which can't be removed. This isn't normal for Peppa figures but is the way that they fit in to the cut out holes on the deck. As most other Peppa figures come with movable limbs, as a parent you know how tiny these limbs are and therefore very fragile, simply based on their size. If played with in a rough way I can imagine they wouldn't last long, however as with all our other Peppa toys we haven't had any break yet although I know other people have. The other downside for the characters (and the boat) is that when in the water, the weight of all three characters on the boat (particularly Grandad Pig) has a tendency to topple the whole thing over very frequently. So if your child wants to watch it 'sail' that's not going to happen much, because as soon as you push it with the characters on the deck, it fails to one side. You also need to be quite forceful with the characters to get them to remain in their holes without coming out, and after a small to fair amount of use, the flimsy nature of their moving limbs mean that they are harder and harder to get to stand up even when in their secure holes and they tend to flop backwards or forwards. Interestingly though when the figures aren't on the deck, the boat floats perfectly whether pushed or not.
With regards to the way the boat drains after use, I haven't experienced any problems with this. The boat itself is a great bath time boat, it floats well, ours has never sunk and therefore showing there aren't any spaces big enough to let a large enough amount of water in-therefore meaning it drains quickly after bath time is over. This is great as it also means I don't have to worry about the water wearing away the paint and decoration. I have heard other people say that the paint comes off easily but ours has been used every night at bath time for eight months now and we haven't noticed any paint coming off at all. The only thing is some very minor wear in the brightness of the colours, but that is to be expected after this amount of time. In my opinion this toy is very durable for regular water play.
Peppa Pig's Bath Time Boat is recommended for children age three and above. As I mentioned, my son was just over two years old when we got ours and I felt this was a good age for this toy. I didn't feel there were any safety problems giving it to him at age two instead. The only thing to note is that the George figure is very tiny which other reviews note could cause a choking hazard. I disagree as although small, it's not that small but is worth noting if you need to be safety conscious about your child putting things in their mouth.
The boat comes with three 'bath crayons' which we were quite excited about using. However I wouldn't recommend anyone uses them as they are very bad quality bath crayons. They stain the bath and take ages to scrub off and also don't fair too well in the water. We threw ours away after the first use. I don't feel this takes away anything from the toy as to me the crayons weren't even a consideration when making the buying decision-just an added extra.
I bought this from Toys'r'us for £19.99 which is what it is still currently retailing for. However I got ours at the end of September last year when they had a special deal on, where if you spent £50 on any Peppa merchandise you got another £30 Peppa toy free-so where I wouldn't usually have spent almost £20 on a bath toy, I had an incentive to do so-and I'm very pleased that I did!
My overall opinion for this bath toy is a very good one. Although it has it's faults with regards to not floating properly with the characters on the deck, other than that it's very durable, easy to clean, quick to drain and as a boat on it's own it floats very well. This toy encourages imaginative play at bath time and is a firm favorite in our house! Considering how well it's lasted and been enjoyed I now fully agree with the price tag too and class it as great value for money.
To summarise, this is a great bath time addition for Peppa fans!
My daughter was brought this toy when we got a new bath by her grandparents. It seemed like a fantastic idea as it was her favorite character and would be lots of fun to be able to draw all over the bath with it just washing off.
the first thing I noticed about the toy was that the characters seems really small in size, especially George who was even small enough to pose a choking hazzard, it does state the toy is for children 3 and up and my daughter is only 2 and a half but i still dont think I would trust a three year old with the size George was.
Which brings me to another thing that concerned me, the toy states it is for ages three and up but yet peppa pig is aimed at children from 1 year old and I imagine would be very childish for a child much over three. I could be wrong and may be children are still watching peppa pig far after the age of three but I cant imagine this toy lasting a 3 year old long.
When my daughter first played with the toy in the bath she had so much fun, she enjoyed writing on the bath very much but I was concerned that this might give out the wrong message and make her think it was ok to draw on walls etc.
The boat which is supposed to be a floating toy does not float properly at all. Although it sits on the surface of the water it is designed badly in the way that as soon as you put the characters on the boat it tips over and so it's not much good at all.
The crayons which come with the boat disintegrate on first use and actually stained my bath. My daughter did use them quite vigorously as she thought it a great novelty but i still think this is bad news, especially if like me you have a brand new bath tub. We did eventually get it off but unfortunately it took a few cleans!
The toy retails at about £15-£20 depending on where you buy it and it is widely avaliable in most toy shops and online, although I would steer clear, this is not one of our best purchases and it now sits in the bath toy box un played with as the novelty has long since worn off!!
I bought this Funtime Bath Boat for my daughter for Christmas as she absolutely loves Peppa pig (and George) so I thought this would be a great addition for bathtime! It is a good size for the bath and can provide a welcome distraction in the bath.
---The features of the toy:
The Funtime Bath Boat comes complete with removable Peppa Pig and George Pig figures dressed in their life jackets and a Grandpa Pig who's arms can be moved and also 3 different coloured bath crayons! The dimensions of the boat are 21 (l) x 12 (h) x 10 (w) cm.
My daughter loves this boat and plays with it every night in the bath. The crayons provide hours of fun as my daughter spends ages drawing on both the sides of the bath and herself. They are quite safe to draw on skin as it washes straight off, they are similar texture to soap and do not seem to mark the sides of the bath although when the bath has been drawn all over it needs a good clean to get off all of the residue that has been left from the colours going into the water. I just use cream cleaner to get this off.
The crayons have only lasted my daughter a couple of months as she has used them up with her constant drawing and as they get wet they do disintegrate when they have been used so the colour comes loose from the plastic holder. I have not found any replacements for the crayons.
I think this is a really good boat in terms of size and features but I do not think that it has been well tested as the boat does not float when all characters are placed on the boat. As Grandpa pig is much bigger than Peppa and George he tips the boat constantly even when all characters are placed in their compartments (which are round grooves that they can be placed in)
It is suitable for 12 months + and I feel that this is a suitable age as I would imagine if they were any younger that they would try to eat the crayons.
I think this is a great boat and provides a lot of enjoyment. The price varies from £15-£20 which is quite a lot but most of the Peppa Pig items are quite pricey. I actually got this boat as a free item when I spent £40 on Peppa Pig items in Smyths.
This is a great toy for both in and out of the bath.
The Boat comes with grandpa pig, peppa pig and george, all are on individual stands which sit in their corresponding holes on the boat, 3 coloured bath crayons (red, blue and yellow).
The boat has all the main toy boat features, a propeller, a mast, a ships wheel, and a cabin (you cant open the cabin up).
The figures are all dressed in sailing attire, with george even wearing an eye patch!
There are a few disadvantages I have found. Only the figures provided sit comfortably on the deck due to their stands, George's foot snapped off the stand as we were unpacking it, so not overlly robust, and the cabin does not open in any way.
However the boat floats really well in the bath and even when pushed hard to make it go it still stays upright! The crayons provide a varied bath time experience, and wipe away very easily even with just rubbing your hand over the marks with water will remove any sign of them. If your children are anything like mine colouring in the bath will be great fun, and yur bath could end up looking like a rainbow!
The water from the bath doesnt penetrate the boat in any way like some other bath toys, so once bath time is over, a quick dry with a towel and it can be put away, no worry about stagment water occuring.
I feel the toy could be improved in a few ways, the cabin opening to store the toys when not in use (they are small), and instead of using stands just having foot holes, as Im sure all the peppa pig figures of this size generally have the same sized feet. Other than this, it is a good toy that will provide an alternative to the traditional squirty or wind up bath toys.Stays afloat, the crayons
