Advantages: Very absorbant, easy to use
Disadvantages: Not large enough, take a long time to dry (without a tumble dryer)
I came to cloth nappies fairly late, not buying them until my son was almost a year old. I took advice from one of the major nappy sellers, Little Green Earthlets, about which nappy to buy, but obviously their advice was limited to brands they sold. I ended up with 20 nappies - 17 Popolino Snap to Fit (now renamed 'Ultrafit) for daytimes, and 3 Snap to Fit 'Softies' for night time, as these are more absorbant. Initially I was thrilled with the nappies; they fit well and are absorbant, easy to wash and quick to dry as I have a tumble dryer. However I did notice that the Softies shrunk rather more than the flannel version. My son is now 2 1/2 years old, and I am still using the flannel nappies during the day, but I had to stop using the Softies when he was nearly 2, as they were just too small. I contacted the company I bought them from, and they did not comment on the shrinkage, but said that as an alternative I could use Motherease Sandys XL size, and boost the nappy with the booster pad from the Softy. This works very well - the Sandys is not quite as absorbant as the Softy, but it is good enough. My son is not a particularly large child - he is slightly taller than average but has a very slim build. Whilst the flannel version of the Snap to Fit will last him through potty training, I can't really think of the Softy as a true 'birth-to-potty' nappy, as some children, especially boys, may not be fully potty trained until they are 3 years old.

- 04/03/02 I tried the Kooshie nappies when my daughter was younger (she is now 2 1/4 and thankfully nearly potty trained - hurrah!) but I didn't get on with them too well and gave up after a few months. My friend now uses these nappies and says they are much better. I might give them a try if I have another baby. Thanks. Jo |
