This changing mat is a genius invention and I wish I had thought of it! When my eldest child was approx 6 months old nappy changing became a nightmare - they would try to roll over or when older try to stand up whilst the nappy was being changed and it was generally a really digusting one, the contents would go everywhere, but more than that they were in danger of falling off of the change unit.

Whilst on a trip to visit family we came across the Rabbitts changing mat in a service station, I was determined to find one.

* What is it *

This is a safety change mat. The Rabbitts change mat features adjustable straps that come down over the shoulder and across the middle with a velcro and clip buckle. It is made of plastic just like over change mats but also comes with attachable towel napkins that catch any accidents when the nappy is being changed. You can use this change mat from birth to 36 months.

* How is this different *

I strap the children down when I am changing their nappies and no more crocodile death rolls, they stay perfectly in place. The changing mat also has an area which is contained at the bottom so that if you are not using the towel napkins the idea is the wee should stay in this area rather than travelling up the back and onto the clothes - as long as you push the clothes up high enough.

* How much does it cost *

When I checked online I found one for £24.99 in a local store which is expensive when compared to other normal change mats that you can buy. I was fortunate to be able to find an end of line one in a bargain bucket for £14.99 - okay it was a hideous pink one and didn't go with the nursery colour scheme but it still did the job. At the time this was the only mat of it's kind on the market, but there could be others available now.

* Why buy one *

I appreciate that £25 for a change mat is expensive, but my feeling is that you can't put a price on safety - I am now going through the curious rolling phase with my second child and this mat has proved indispensable.

* How has it worn *

I have had this mat for about 2 years and I would be lying if I said it was in perfect condition, the plastic has torn around the holes where the straps come through from the back, this is because it took child number 1 a while to realise that they were not going to be able to move and they fought against being strapped down for quite a while. Other than that it is in quite good condition.

Summary: In my opinion expensive but worth every penny.
