Advantages: They float?

Disadvantages: Lots

Rubber ducks have been around for years and if you are a normal human being then you have or will have one. I had one and now my boys have one. A bathroom wouldn't be bathroom without one sat on the side awaiting for the next human being to start running the water into the bath and pouring in the bubbles. Isn't it strange how a bit of plastic that is shaped to look like a duck could take the world by storm and be around forever? As much as rubber ducks are loved by everyone, they aren't all sweetness and light.

First off some of them can be quite ugly. The one in the picture is rather sweet but I had one that was made of thin plastic and you could barely make out a face. You can get one's these days that are scary looking and there are plenty of novelty ones on Ebay that freak the hell out of me.

The next thing that really, really, annoys me about the duck is the fact that it doesn't do anything. Yes it may float through the bubbles on top of the water but if you throw anything plastic into the bath then the chances are this will do the same. Most rubber ducks have a fixed expression, fixed wings and don't do a single thing. How boring!! Now I know the squashy plastic ones squirt water but if you only get the privelidge of having one that cost 99p from pound saver then it will be that hard plastic that I described above and there will be no 'give' in the darn thing.

The final thing that I cannot stand about these things is the fact that the water gets stuck in the hole underneath it. I shake and squeeze and rub and I shake but you can never get it all out. The result of this is that over time, it slowly starts to go black from the inside out and you have to throw it away.

All in all the rubber duck is a timeless classic that has an awful lot of flaws!

Summary: Not the best thing in the world

The thing with Rubber ducks is that you have to speak to them gently and then you will notice a whole lot of difference in them. go on try it x

Rubber Ducks are really easy to keep as pets, and require significantly less food than the feathered variety ;)
