Advantages: They can be fun
Disadvantages: more than 4 pounds to buy
I never had a rubber duck when I was a child or a toddler, but I have always thought that they are cute.
I bought a nice set of ducks for my nephew when he was 2 years old. There was the mum, the dad and the small duck, you could say who was the dad and the mum by the expression on their faces, the mum had a bit of lipstick, I guess, dad was more serious, probably an accountant or a lawyer between duck. The smaller duck was the dullest, although may be meant to be the cutest.
We bought them in France in summer where we were holidaying and we went to something like a car boot sale (I say something like that since it was more a proper fair with few stalls selling different kind of stuff. The ducks were sealed and they cost me 4.99 euros, more than 4 pounds, which I do not think is very cheap.
They are yellow and made of plastic, they are quite rigid, which was my major disappointment (from the bow we could not say, because it was solid plastic and I could not touch and feel the ducks) but they float well, and the smaller duck is reassuringly large not to be swallowed by my nephew.
I must say that he did not like them too much, he played with them for a couple of years, but they have never been a favourite.
Last time I visited my sister (my nephew's mother) they were still on the bathtub.
I am not sure when I will have a child myself, but if and when I do, I will borrow them.
Summary: They can be fun

- 03/11/09 I'm kinda with Plipplop on this one - it's a shame you haven't really had a chance to interact with your nephew whilst playing (or not) with the ducks - it would give you a better insight as to how much a child engages with them.
Having said that, how much fun can one have with a rubber duck (except for the type that are sold, apparently, by some adult shops - thanks to www.cracked.com for that particular disturbing insight)!

- 01/11/09 In reference to your comment, I'm assuming you meant my rating on this review - you said 'dick' rather than 'duck'.
Is somewhat useful too harsh? OK - let's think about this.
1 - This is www.dooyoo.co.uk - a review site for UK consumers. Your review refers entirely to a product purchased in France. Not terribly useful that.
2 - You described the product pretty as any other set of plastic ducks might be. Not terribly insightful, that.
3 - You've never owned a product like this yourself. Not necessarily hugely useful.
And so to the final question - is everyone else's rating wrong? Well, that's not for me to say - but if, generally, UK consumers find reviews of French toys that were sold several years ago very useful, then I guess you're fine. |
