"A £24.99 Potty!? " was my darling hubby's reaction to the Comfy Cushy Potty arriving in our home. I do admit its slightly extravagant for something that essentially gets piddled and pooped in, but it does more than just that. It's actually worth every penny as it has more life than the brief period of potty training.
I have three potties in the house at the moment. There is a little basic blue one, a squeak-a-duck one from Mamas and Papas and this, the piece de resistance, the Comfy Cushy which sits at the back of the living area.
Potty training was not going well for us even though my son showed all the signs of being ready when we started it appeared that he just could not be bothered to actually use the loo or potty. I started off with a little basic potty which was fine, but he wasn't impressed with it, then bought a Squeek-a-duck potty from M&P which he seemed to think was more of a toy than a potty and finally I just blew the budget with this. It was the one that finally worked for us.
The 3 in 1 aspect is a bit of a con, they say that it is a 3 in 1 as it consists of a potty, a cushioned trainer seat and then can turn into a footstool, but the cushioned trainer can only be used with this potty- you cant just lift it and put it on to your own loo as it is too small.
What I liked:
My little boy liked the huge sturdy shape of this potty. He called it his 'toilet' as it must have felt more substantial to him than the basic potty did. He also liked the comfort of the cushioned seat. I also liked the fact that the seat was reversible. It has two sides, one with a recess for little girls and one with a shield to stop little boys from squirting wee everywhere.
I liked the fact that the lid was also very strong, when it was cleaned and closed over it felt hygienic. I didn't mind having it in the room with me the way I minded open potties. It is fairly discrete in design and not an obvious potty.
It is very easy to clean, you just lift the pot out, empty, clean and pop back in (I also recommend Dettol Spray, its fab!) It is very hard to knock this over so it doesn't spill if it is full or your little one wants to show you their doings. And there are little feet on the bottom to keep it gripped to the floor.
When it is being used as a step it is quite high. This is ideal for little ones to reach the taps to wash their hands. We have another step and my son struggles to reach the water at the wash basin. We will get a lot of use from it in this mode.
At the sides there are little handles, I use these to lift the potty and my son uses them to hold on to sometimes to steady himself up as a two year old is not always particularly balanced.
What I disliked:
The seat unit is a little small for children who are on the bigger side, my son does have to sit down further to the back to make sure there are no spills. And the only other thing I wasn't keen on was the price, it is certainly a lot for a potty!
To Recommend or not?
It's an expensive item, but really very sturdy and we did eventually get through potty training with this piece of equipment. My son really does like it and I find it extremely convenient to have around. The price is really high but if you do have any spare cash it is a good buy. I will be packing this away to use for my daughter in a couple of years and I am the type of person who rarely keeps things to use again. (Yes very wasteful!) A cheap potty does the same job just fine. But I do like this.
Its more like a throne than a potty!
The Comfy Cushy 3-in-1 Potty creates a hassle-free potty experience that makes the potty training process easier for you and your child.
