Advantages: Easy to maintain, good, creative fun
Disadvantages: None
With the exception of a period of a month when my son refused baths full stop, bathtime in our house is always great fun and there are always a few toys in the bath to aid that fun (and to allow mum to throw in a bit of learning too)!
Although "squirters" seem to be junior's favorite as a mum I'm not so keen - for one water ends up everywhere and for two they're very hard to keep clean as water invariably gets trapped inside. Mum prefers basic plastic toys which are easy to clean and dry and which can be used for a variety of activities. The Safety First tugs fit this brief perfectly.
Comprising three tug boats which stack this is a themed step up from stacking cups but about as simple. The tugs have drainage holes and also holes for string to be attached to link the boats together or to pull them around the tub. However, ours are always separate and without string and we still have lots of fun.
One of the joys of these tugs over the bath boats I recall as a child is that they're unsinkable with water alone so it doesn't matter when the water splashes in. However, you can sink them by putting other objects in them and thus they allow you to quietly teach about floating and sinking and junior loves guessing what will happen when an object is placed on top.
The boats can be used to teach colour and numbers. We've used them to go on a bathtub adventure to visit the squirty animals standing on the sides of the bath. We've put bubble "steam" on the tops of the funnels and had races, pulling the water away from the boats to make them travel.
The simplicity of these toys means that there are no safety issues and that they will probably outlast the child's interest in bath toys.
They are also great for taking to the beach and role play can again take place with boats sailing on the "sea" (or moat!). They're good in a paddling pool too. Being washable you don't care how mucky they get!
For a child who has a sense of imagination I'd thoroughly recommend these toys. For a few pounds you'll get years of fun and a whole lot of use!
Summary: Great bath toy!
