Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Smell and they are not moisturising
When it comes to wet wipes or baby wipes they are something of late I've really appreciated being around. As a single girl what would I do be doing with wet wipes though lol?
Well firstly a couple of weeks back I was bed bound after having an injection into my spine. I could barely walk so I got a few packets of this type of thing to help me stay fresh and smell clean as I simply wasn't up to bathing and showering which is incredibly hard for a clean freak like me! Also my friend has dropped her little un off around here for a few hours quite a bit lately and yes she supplies wipes in her sons nappy bag but there is never enough for her little tyke so I like to have some about for emergencies for him. There seriously is nothing worse than him touching my furniture with sticky, grubby hands! lol.
These I bought actually for the economic value to be honest. I spend alot usually on this type of product and at 80 wipes for 77p they just seemed a real value buy product! After all each wipe works out at less than a penny each so in my mind had to be worth a go though I wasn't expecting much from them to be fair it was more a case of curiosity!
The Packaging....
White oblong, plastic packet with see through flap you lift to get wipe out of and it closes rather well. In bright orange writing I'm told they are Sainsbury's 'Basics' 80 Baby Wipes, Everyday Design, Everyday Use. On each side of the packet I'm again told what they are and on the back of the packet all in black writing I am told directions for use, ingredients are listed, warnings are given, contact details for Sainsbury's are stated, I am told they are not recyclable (so bin them after use rather than flush them) and finally there is a bar-code on there. Very simple but still, informative enough packaging. They scream cheap at you due to the colouring of the packaging and me, well ok I'm a brand snob and I wouldn't want people to see I use them to be perfectly honest with you!
Directions For Use....
To Use: Peel back label and use wipes as required. Reseal label after use, this will help keep wipes moist. For best results for baby use with Sainsbury's Nappy Sacks and Sainsbury's Baby toiletries.
The Wipes....
Square not really all that big, white cloths rather than paper. They are quite strong but as I just mentioned not all that thick at all and in patches you can see through the material. Strong and robust enough they are I guess and I don't find them to shred or tear when in use to e fair to them.
Smell wise not great I'm afraid. Listed in the ingredients is flower extract and this is what these wipes smell of. Rather than a gentle and kind 'baby' sort of smell these are really heavily scented with flowers and an overpowering sweetness that simply isn't really all that nice. Don't get me wrong it isn't a revolting smell and to use on myself to freshen up I don't mind smelling of toilet cleaner if need be but when I looked at my friends little boys bum I did wonder if he'd mind smelling of this cheap scent!
The wipes are not all that moist or smooth to the touch at all either. Where as with alot of baby wipes I get a moisturising feeling when using them these don't give that feeling (in my view). They seem to contain alot of water which you can kind of feel when using them and no moisturiser can be detected within them.
I used them for wiping my hands in bed when I was ill because I'm a smoker. Personally I preferred the smell of smoke than the smell left after using these. Yes I did feel a bit fresher and I could feel slightly cleaner hands if I used these after eating but hands were left feeling a little dry and certainly a bit more than clammy. They leave an odd sort of slightly sticky feeling where you have wiped.
I did use these on my friends son once. I cleaned off his bum during nappy change time and freshened him up with one of these and he was left with a garden fresh bum. They worked ok but I wasn't really all that happy they weren't all that moisturising on his delicate skin.
Overall....
If your really skint fine I don't believe they hurt you or your baby in any way shape or form. They are gentle enough but for me the thickness of the wipe isn't enough, they aren't all that soft and kind and moisturising but what you do get is something that works and is cost effective in hard times. I believe that it's worth spending a few pence more for a few less wipes as you can't beat quality in this area. These lack this somewhat and really are just a cheap alternative. What's more is even though they are relatively cost effective you do tend to need to use more of them to get adequate results!
Me, I won't be using them again and would rather spend out a little more and I certainly wouldn't buy them for my precious child (if I had one lol).
Only available in Sainsbury's.
Summary: Ok for adults but not ok for kids delicate skin!
