Advantages: Flushable, Can help young children to wipe independently, Nice smelling, Good value for money
Disadvantages: Are advised to only flush one wipe per flush, Wipes on top can dry out
I recently made a shopping trip to Sainsbury's and picked up some Sainsbury's Little Ones Botty Wipes. I had tried potty wipes before but not the Sainsbury's brand.
There are 2 versions of these wipes available - slightly fragranced or unfragranced. I chose the fragranced version as I find this makes the job slightly sweeter! There are 60 wipes per pack and each pack costs just 70p, which I think is very good value for money. There was also a 2 for £1.00 offer on. The wipes come in a light purple packet (the unfragranced wipes come in a white packet) with an illustrated picture of 2 pairs of underpants/knickers hanging on a washing line, some clouds and a butterfly! They are perfectly suitable for boys or girls. The pack is roughly the same thickness as a pack of standard baby wipes but slightly shorter.
My daughter is at school now which means she has no choice but to wipe her 'botty' by herself when she's there! Therefore I have begun to refuse to do the deed at home too. I buy potty wipes to keep next to the toilet. Learning to wipe can be quite a struggle for little ones, especially if they happen to do a particularly nasty poop! Toilet roll can often rip, tear, smear and generally put my daughter off wiping. Potty wipes are definitely a good way to encourage independent wiping.
The first thing I noticed about the Sainsbury's Little Ones Botty Wipes were how nice they smelt. They're quite strong smelling and very sweet smelling, much like melon. This will instantly make children want to use them. I was worried that they might be a bit 'sticky' due to the strong smell but they're not at all. The thickness of the wipes seems just about right, not too thin but not too thick. They are very moist (but not too moist) which help the wipes glide across the skin with ease - this is very useful for cleaning up stubborn poo's! They are slightly smaller than regular baby wipes but not too much smaller. One or two wipes is usually enough to get the job done. The wipes are dispensed out of a hole in the top of the packet. The wipes separate from each other easily (don't get stuck together) and they are easy enough for my daughter to dispense from the packet by herself. The only downside is that I find that quite often the top wipe dries out and becomes pretty useless. The wipes are flushable, which is a must when using potty wipes (you cannot flush regular baby wipes). However the packet states 'flushable one wipe at a time, on full flush only' which is a little disappointing as occasionally my daughter might need to use more than one or two wipes. We have actually flushed more than one and fortunately they went down with no problems! The packet states that the wipes are 'specially formulated wild mild ingredients to help keep your toddler clean and fresh whilst potty training'. My daughter has never experienced any irritation or soreness when using these wipes. The packet also states that 'all our Little Ones products have the 'Tested and Recommended' seal of approval from mums and dads who have rigorously tested them at home and would recommend these products to other mums and dads' which is good to know. They are paraben free too. The Sainsbury's website also states that the wipes are part of their Cruelty Free Cosmetics programme, which means they're not tested on animals (this isn't stated on the packet, rather stupidly).
Of course they don't just have to be used on bottys! We have used them on a few occasions for hands, face and spillages around the house. They're just as moist and effective as baby wipes, plus they smell good too.
I'm happy to recommend these handy, sweet smelling, value for money wipes to all.
Summary: Good potty wipes from Sainsbury's.
