Advantages: Great value (£1.37 for 20!), work really well

Disadvantages: You really need to investigate size first!

Nappies are a true mind-field to me. I'm not a parent but I do occasionally get roped into looking after my friends children, and as a childless spinster I adore it but feel relieved to hand the kids back after 8 hours I can tell you that much! lol. Of course when I babysit I do all the usual duties and nappy changing is one of them things I absolutely hate. I'm not sure if as a parent you becomes immune to nappy contents but as a none parent it's something that makes me gag and I really hate it!

My friend, at the moment is on an economy drive. As a single parent with two children and working she gets little help financially and struggles big time to make ends meet. When she first had her children it was branded products all the way and the best of everything but of late I've noticed really cheap things popping into her home and surprisingly...she's not one bit bothered by it which has actually gone some way into changing my view of shopping and I'm becoming less of a brand snob too!

Yesterday I looked after her little boy. Oh my he's a gorgeous little thing and a real pleasure though what comes out of his bum has to be described as toxic! It's a grim task and I'm sure he senses I hate the task and loves to try cover me in the content of his nappy with his little hand and play games with me. Me, I don't have the patience and I'm not the worlds best nappy changer anyway but my word does he chuckle! Well last week I used Tesco Nappies and this week she had Sainsburys' Basic' ones. After using the Tesco one's I was surprisingly shocked at how good they happened to be so I wasn't so apprehensive of using these one's!

The Packaging....

Well 20 nappies are stored in a white plastic wrapper and in orange writing on the front I'm told they are Sainsbury's 'Basics', 20 Junior Nappies (Size 5 11-25kg, 24-55lb) and there is a scribble of a safety pin (also in orange) on there. Down both sides of the packet I'm again told what they are and on the back I'm given directions for use (with 3 little diagrams), warnings are listed, contact details for Sainsbury's are given, I'm told to bag it and bin it and not flush it and finally there is a bar-code on there. Very simple and economy looking these really are but there is enough information on there and it's easy to open the packet up and get a nappy out etc.

The Nappies Themselves...

Are stored in 2 lines of 10 in the square packet. The nappy itself is white, disposable with a very long but quite thin cotton wool pad that goes from the front to the the back. There are two fairly large adhesive pieces of white tape to the back-sides as well and at the front of the nappy there is a little strip of cartoon type, colourful characters.

What surprised me with these nappies was the size of them. Although they are junior they are still quite large in comparison to other 'value' nappies of this type. The side elastication (legs) is rather loose and makes me think they'd be better for a bigger child than the one I used them on cos his little legs dangled through the holes and the nappy wasn't very well fitting though having said that once I put a baby grow over and put him in his bed it was fine. So I would say bigger babies would benefit most from these.

I found these to be highly absorbent though I was of course slightly concerned about leakage (which we didn't get after-all). I found they don't need changing every 5 minutes and I was really impressed with them. They didn't seem to irritate him and he never had a bad case of sudden nappy rash either.

Verdict....

My favourite economy nappy of the moment. I feel these are a must for emergencies and are a really brilliant money saver. I had no problem putting him in one, the tapes stayed in place over a few hours and no damp spots! Really great nappies!

Summary: Brill!
