Having twin boys obviously both in nappies I am always looking for ways to save money yet at the same time find something reliable too. Pampers were my first choice when they were born but after just a few weeks I was left with nappies falling apart and the crystals inside falling everywhere, they were only weeks old at the time and I was disgusted especially as Pampers are some of the most expensive nappies you can buy.

For the past 10months or more I have been using both Boots and Sainsburys nappies being quite impressed with both - they have done exactly what I needed and wanted them to do at a fraction of the price.

As the nappies increase in size you are given less in a packet and the packets seem to become more expensive so as you can imagine I was extremely pleased to find that a large pack of 54 Sainsburys Little Ones Nappies were just £6.49 roughly - to add to my delight Sainsburys often have a baby event where they offer a third off Baby items including nappies leaving this particular pack of nappies at an exciteable wee in the pants price of just £4.99! On top of this I receive Nectar Points on my Nectar Card.

The packs they come in are quite large, being tall and wide - a pale green in colour with a picture of a young girl standing proud in one of these nappies. The packets are very basic but on them you are told exactly what you need to know. On the packs I buy this is the information included;
You are told at the top that these are Sainsburys Little Ones DRY .. containing 54 Ultra Absorbent Nappies. We are then told that they are Soft, compact contoured design for a snug, secure fit day and night with flexible stretchy sides.
At the bottom of the packet you are told the size - in my boys case a size 5 - Junior for children 11-25kg or 24-55lb. When you visit your health visitors or doctors they can weigh your baby if you are not sure of your childs exact weight. Obviously the information on the packs differs for the age and size of your child.

You are also provided with some promising information on the back of the nappies pack.

'Sainsburys little ones dry nappies are regularly tested to provide great performance and quality' - This would give anybody who had not used them before high hopes for these.

We are shown a picture of an open nappy with arrows pointing to certain areas with specific info for each point. These points being;

*Extra absorbent core locks liquid away helping to keep your babys bottom dry - At the back of the nappy.
*Compact and contoured in design to allow for free movement and a secure fit to your babys bottom - Towards the bum area.
*Elasticated leg cuffs provide protection against leakage - Around the legs
*Farmyard animal story design - On the front
*Flexible sides that stretch, helping your baby feel snug and secure both day and night - The 'wings' on the sides.

To look at these nappies they don't look like anything special - in fact they feel quite thin and flimsy they are tall and seem quite narrow as if they won't fit around my boys or hold much of what they've got to fill them with. Of course there was only one way for me to find out if they lived up to what was being sold on the packets and that was to use them and hope for the best.

Now although I do buy the larger size without even opening a nappy up they looked a slight bit big - as if they would be hanging down to their knees and rising up their bellies. Each nappy is as promised decorated in farm animals which I think is a real bonus. The animals vary from nappy to nappy ranging from cows/cats/ rabbits to ducks. As most parents know nappy changing can become an increasing nightmare when your child gets older as they like to wriggle and really don't want to lay down still for a nappy change. Luckily my boys adore any sort of animals whether they be in picture form or real life so when they started to become a little fidgety and unsettled when it came to changing their nappies I would show them the animals on them which makes them feel comfortable to lay there and have 'moos and quacks' on fitted around them.

Both my boys are quite tall, my oldest twin having wider hips and waist than my youngest yet they both fit perfectly well into the same size nappy.

I found them quite easy to put on and despite them looking narrow once they were opened up and my boys lay flat on them they wrapped around them perfectly and with ease. They didn't feel tight and I could fit a finger inbetween the nappy and their belly perfectly without the nappy feeling like it was too tight, too loose or about to come off.

The wings which come around and stick do stretch as promised to allow comfort and ease of putting them. This would probably provide great comfort for your child as they grow and get bigger. To my surprise they have quite a strong stick to them too and can hold securely for a good few hours before they begin to lift up slightly and lose their grip.

During the day when my boys are up and about I have found them to be excellent they hold in endless amounts off wees and poos believe me, and touch wood they have suffered no leaks. They can move around comfortably, climb up the stairs, climb on my high settee and onto my chairs with the nappy still clinging on securely. I even used to check to see if they had any marks on them just in case they were hurting them in anyway (perhaps by rubbing on ther skin) when they were moving about as they seemed just too good to be true really for such a 'cheap' nappy. Even the leg cuffs do not rub or dig into their legs like I expected them to - they both seem comfortable and content and fairly happy to move about freely whilst in these nappies.

My boys go to bed at roughly 6.30 at night after a bottle, and wake at 7.30 but I do change them at arouind 9.30 - 10 because I know they pee quite a bit after a bottle and I know the nappy wouldn't last through to the morning as no other nappies I have tried lasted without a leak or falling apart. They go from 10 in the night roughly to at least 7.30 in the morning and wake up with the nappy still sitting comfortably on their waists, no leaks, and holding what needs to be held firmly where it should be. Touching wood again we have had no leaks, or breakages and I have found due to them holding a significant amount of moisture in my boys have suffered from nappy rashes alot less.

O.K so these are no top branded pampers or huggies - but sometimes I firmly believe in you are just paying for the name! These have saved me quite a bit of money and have lived up to my high expectations and needs. My twins are coming up 20 months now, they are bigger and can move about hell of alot more - even though they have been walking since they were 10months old and even now I can see these lasting me until they are completely potty trained. I can't reccomend these enough to be honest, for the price you can't go wrong as for me they do what a nappy is supposed to do.
