After having our son, the midwives in the hospital recommended that only cotton wool and water should be used on our little one's bottom, at least for the first few days. This was lovely. Ever tried wiping something with the consistency of treacle off a wriggling baby? It was a delightful experience. Therefore when we were discharged after four days, we opted to use wipes. I went a little bit crazy when I was pregnant and bought Johnson's, Pampers, Simple and Huggies wipes as I had no idea which would be best so I had quite a selection to choose from to use on my precious newborns backside.

As we all know, Simple specialise in products suitable for sensitive skin as they don't contain any needless perfumes or chemicals, just very basic ingredients. I have used numerous simple products in the past and they have always worked great on my sensitive skin and so I decided they would be suitable for my baby's delicate skin.

We originally bought our wipes from Boots for around £2 but recently found them in our local Home Bargains for 99p so we stocked up! You can buy them in the normal packs with the peel back strip to keep the wipes fresh but the recent packs we bought have a plastic click lid to keep them moist which is really handy for taking out and about. For some reason I find it much easier to get each individual wipe out of the pack with the lid on than I did using the original packaging. With the original packaging I'd end up pulling out about 5 wipes when I only wanted one as they all stuck together.

As you'd expect of a Simple product, the wipes don't have an overpowering scent but are lightly fragranced. I think this is due to the moisturiser that is added to the wipes rather than any perfume. I find them moist enough to tackle stuck on poo (a lovely image, I know!) without being too moist to make a mess. They are lovely and soft and just the right thickness. Other cheaper wipes I have tried have looked like they are about to fall apart which isn't great when you've got a dirty bum to contend with.

These wipes are so great for sensitive skin, I feel happy using them on my baby's face and hands when he's made a mess with his food. I have even tried them on my own skin when I ran out of my own face wipes, figuring if they are good enough for my baby they are good enough for me, and they did an adequate job and there was definitely no irritation.

I really do recommend these wipes, they are cheap, versatile and great for sensitive skin. Unlike Huggies wipes that just seem to smear the poo everywhere (sorry!), these wipes are one of the best I've come across. Anything that makes nappy changing time an easier experience gets a big thumbs up from me.
