Advantages: eco friendly, no nappy rash, saves you tonnes of money in the long run
Disadvantages: some are hard to use to start with and take a while to dry
I think everyone should at least try terry nappies
theres always a system that will work for you
I started off with cotton bottoms and just couldnt get along with them.
i found them difficult to fold, very bulky and well a bit old fashioned really.
next i moved onto the bambino mio system, similar to the cotton bottoms system but a bit more thought out.the cotton inner wasnt as bulky, easier to fold and the wraps fitted better but still i went on to try other but kept my mio set incase i didnt find anything better.
i bought a set of kushies- excellent all in one nappies wash and dry really well. excellent patterned and plain wraps ,different sizes and velcro fastenings yay for kushies excellent!
next were the totbots- i bought 2 fluffles(nippa fastern) and 2 of the normal ones with the velcro again an excellent system the fluffles dry so quickly but the velcro on the normal versions were much better as i found the nippas very sharp and my little worried me pulling at them incase it came undone and got her fingers Ouch!
dont forget you need wraps for the totbots too unless u get the flexi's which i believe are built in wraps :o)
next the onelife nappys- lovely soft eco friendly all the way but too big heavy and take ages to dry just not what i needed. the wraps were huge too and very plasticy too
then last but certainly not least were my lovely little lamb nappies.
i got the cotton ones, the micro fleece ones the bamboo ones all with velcro fastenings and with there own sheepy wraps too.
all bright white, all very soft and ahh just lovely.
the fit so well so no leaks, there soft around little legs, there small fitting so dont stretch clothes out of shape or make your baby look like she/he has a jlo bum lol
they dry in a matter of hours, the micro fleece is dry in about an hour so id go for a full set of these if i had to start again but all of the are bloomin excellent honestly.
all come with fleece liners and a built in liner so you can make them soak up more where it needs to.
every parent should try washable nappies and most councils offer some sort of scheme that gives you 50% of your outlay spend back plus washing services at great prices if you dont want to wash them your self( not that theres any reason why you cant do it yourself )
good luck if you go for it and well done if you already use them.
Summary: if you put the effort in you'll soon see the reward in your purse
