Advantages: cheap, gentle, smells nice
Disadvantages: none
I use baby toiletries fairly often on my skin, they are generally fairly cheap, don't irritate my dry skin and don't clash with any perfume I use after I shower. My favourite is Johnsons baby which has that gorgeous smell and is around £2.50 for a bottle of softwash. The Tesco Babysoft cotton milk bodywash costs just £1 for a 400ml bottle so in the interests of saving a few pennies I decided to give it a try.
The bodywash comes in a top down bottle which is really handy in the shower when you are nearly finished the bottle as it minimises wastage. The nozzle has a rubber bit inside it meaning that you have to squeeze the bottle for any softwash to come out which would be handy if you left it open by accident or if a baby was playing with it they would not have the strength to squirt the soap out and waste it.
The bodywash is nice and white when it comes out, no nasty artificial colours in here to irritate delicate skin. It has a really mild and gentle smell, I remember hating it the first time I used it because it was not the Johnsons baby smell but it grew on me over time. I'm not great at describing smells but it is a really soft smell which is a bit like baby powder mixed in with baby lotion.
The softwash feels really moisturising when I first apply it to my skin and I can really feel the baby lotion which is in the formula. It lathers up but doesn't produce many bubbles, loads of tiny white bubbles. I would like more lather but I suppose if you are bathing a little baby you don't want too many bubbles to rinse away.
My skin always feels nice and clean and soft after I have used this bodywash, I have many patches of dry skin and I have not felt that it has irritated them at all. It's certainly a product I would feel happy to recommend that an adult or child with sensitive skin tries. The softwash also claims a no tears formula and I am sad enough to admit that I tried this out; it did sting my eyes very slightly but it performed much better than the Johnsons night time wash which left my eyes streaming with tears.
Overall Tesco Babysoft bodywash is a fantastic buy, it is less than half the price of the leading brand and performs just as well on babies big and small.
Summary: for babies big and small

- 13/09/09 I have to admit that my eyes sting even if it is plain tap water in them, so the No More Tears claim does not work for me either. Strangely enough though, contact lens stuff doesn't irritate me! |
