Advantages: Cleans hair, leaves it soft, cheap
Disadvantages: None from my family
Since having my first baby, now 7 ½ years ago baby shampoo is always something we have in the bathroom, not so much for baby but for Daddy! After moving and being back by a Tesco store we switched from Johnson's to Tesco's own as the price difference was quite a lot.
~~THE BOTTLE~~
The shampoo comes is a clear bottle which is handy so it is clearly visible how much of the yellow shampoo is left. The front of the bottle has the title and name of the shampoo in the middle in fairly small blue and pink writing and below this is a picture of a cartoon lion. The last bottle we bough had a different picture so I think this varies and there is a few different characters to choose from.
The back of the bottle has a white label covering the majority of it and on here you can find the direction for use, the ingredients, warnings and Tesco's price promise.
~~USE AND RESULTS~~
The shampoo is a good thick consistency which means that it does not run off the hand when pouring it from the bottle and the flip lid means that the bottle can be closed easily one handed. After rubbing the shampoo slightly between my hand it does start to make a lather and then I rub it directly into my boys wet hair. The shampoo makes a wonderful large lather which is very funny for my boys as they like to then style the hair and lather into funny shapes! I do tend to leave this on for a few minutes so that I can make sure all the hair is clean. When it comes to washing it off I do put the shower on so it is much quicker. I find that it is very easy to wash out as long as you have not used too much of the shampoo.
I find that only the smallest pea size amount of shampoo is needed for my middle son as he only has very short hair and slightly more for his brothers who have slightly longer hair.
After the shampoo is washed off I can notice that the hair looks much shinier. When the hair is dry then it looks and shines very nicely. The shampoo does have a lovely fresh smell which always reminds me of new babies and this is apparent when using the shampoo and also it remains when the shampoo has been washed off the hair. I like how it does stay and lasts on the hair as it really s pleasant and smells fresh and clean. My boys don't mind the smell of this and do not think that it is at all girly and they too think they smell clean and always have to get both me and Daddy to smell them!
~~WARNINGS~~
The back of the bottle does contain a warning about the shampoo and t is the usual one of avoiding contact with the eyes. I can say though that when the shampoo is lathered up it really does not affect the eyes, it has gone in my boys on a few occasions when washing it out of the hair but it has not caused any upset or soreness. I am not saying that it is ok to put this shampoo in your eyes but for me it is a bonus that it does not cause irritation.
~~INGREDIENTS~~
The ingredients of this shampoo for those wishing to know are:-
Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Glycerin, Parfum, Disodium Cocamphodiacete, Sodium Cocamphoaceate,Citric Acid, PEG - 150 Disterate, Polyquarternium-10, Testasodium ETDA, Sodium Hydroxide, Magnesium Nitrate, Methylchloroisothiazoline, Magnesium Chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, Hexlene Glycol, CI 47005, CI 14700
~~OTHER~~
The front of the bottle does claim that this shampoo is suitable for newborns, no tears formula, paediatrician approved, gently cleans hair and scalp, hypoallergenic, paraben free. It does not say if this product has been tested on animals or not.
The plastic bottle is fully recyclable but for us we recycle it is a slightly different way by using it as a bath toy. All the expensive toys they have for the bath and this and others like it are their favourite as it allows them to squirt water out of it!
~~PRICE AND AVAILABILIY~~
As this is a Tesco's own brand then it is only available in Tesco's stores or on their website. It retails at £1.06 for a 500ml bottle and I find that it last using it on 3 boys and their Dad for a good 4 weeks.
~~OVERALL~~
Overall do have to rate this shampoo very highly as it cleans hair well, leaves it soft and shiny and is nearly £1 cheaper than Johnsons!
Summary: A cheap baby shampoo which works very well for the whole family
