Advantages: Cheaper than the major brands, but just as good
Disadvantages: Not all Tesco stores stock them
I have just been through the joys of potty training with my daughter who is 2 ¼ yrs. She is now, more or less, accident free when we are at home, but still needs a little help when we are out and about. I use proper knickers at home, but when we were out I use disposable training pants. I first brought Huggies Pull Ups. They worked fine in terms of keeping her dry if she had an accident, but after I had been using them for a week I noticed a red sore patch of both sides of her body. I couldn't work out what had caused it. I hadn't changed anything I used on her or to wash her clothes. Then I put a pair of Huggies on her and noticed that the red marks lined up exactly with the side seams on the training pants. They are made with tear away sides so they are easy to get off, but the Huggies have thick seams with a ridge on the inside. These were rubbing my daughter and making her sore. So I stopped using the Huggies, and looked round for another brand. I found that Tesco also make their own training pants. These are just as absorbent as the Huggies, keeping her very dry if the odd accident happens. They have an elasticated waist and leg cuffs to stop any leaking. They also have tear away side like the Huggies, but they don't have thick seams, so they are much softer, and are not rubbing her legs. The other big advantage to the Tesco pants is the price difference. Currently Huggies are £4.95 for 17 pairs, while the Tesco training pants are only £3.99 for the same number of pants. The Tesco pants come in two sizes, medium for 10-16kg, and large for 15-25kg, so most children who are potty training will be able to fit them. The only slight problem is that not every store has them. I live near three Tescos and only one has them regularly. However I have been asking at the other ones, and both have promised that they will start stocking them "soon".

- 20/02/01 Good op...wish they had been about when mine were little, for trips out when it wasn't always convenient to stop at a loo. |

- 15/02/01 I use proper knickers most of the time, particularly at the start, as Alice thought they were nappies. However now she is more or less trained, these are handy and nicer for her if she has an accident while we are out.

- 14/02/01 I personally found these a waste of money. I stuck Jess in proper knickers, and though it was a little messier in terms of more washing etc, she got training quicker. We atill have the odd accident but most kids do :-) |
