Advantages: A cheap way of doing the right thing.
Disadvantages: None
One hundred nappy bags for 38p, what an absolute bargain!
I`m afraid my nappy bag days have long gone but I still have to find an inexpensive way of dealing with the `doggy poo` . You just try putting that nicely lol it is a bit tricky!
Every carrier bag that comes into our house is stashed away in a drawer as if it were gold dust and then taken out for a walk. But times they are a changing and when you ask for a carrier bag in most supermarkets you are frowned upon, you are supposed to buy the everlasting bags, canvas and jute shoppers. Plastic carrier bags are no longer PC.
I bought two shopping bags from Wilkinson`s for 49p each and they are great but it still doesn't help with my everlasting dog problem.
Our local council do give some away occasionally and I do buy the Bob Martins bags from the local pet shop but of course they are much more expensive.
Then I was saved! I came across the Tesco nappy bags.
The basic presentation doesn't mean a thing to me, they are functional and that is all that counts. They come in the red, blue and white packaging of the Tesco basic range, they pull out of the plastic packet easily and they have two carrying handles. The bonus is that they are fragranced too, a feature that I like but the Other Half doesn't, he says that he feels daft using scented bags.
Quite sensibly Tesco advise that the bags aren't put down the toilet, well that's not going to happen in my case. They also ask that the bags are kept away from children. One point I am not sure about is whether the bags are biodegradable or not?
You also need to be aware that if you store them in your pockets or your handbag then anything that comes into contact with them will be tainted with the perfume too.
For the tiny sum of 38p they do the job admirably. They take up no room at all so it is much better to have a pocket full of these rather than a pocket full of bulky carrier bags and in the long run the major thing is that any dog fouling is cleared up by the pets owner.
I expect many of the discount stores do have their own version of the nappy bag and I am sure that places like Poundland would have them in stock too.
Summary: An inexpensive way of being a responsible pet owner.

- 16/02/09 Big stationery shops often sell large packs of small bags, they work out at about 1p each. I use those. |

- 15/02/09 They help to cover the smell of the dog poo too! xx |
