Advantages: Ease of use, good absorbency, not too bulky

Disadvantages: Long drying time

I tried a few brands of cloth nappies before settling on Tots Bots and have now been happily using them for nine months. I started off buying a few Fluffles (which have now been discontinued although they are still available on some websites). The advantage of these is that they dry incredibly quickly however I found them too bulky, especially on a one month old.

Then I discovered Bamboozles which are made of naturally anti-bacterial bamboo fibre and now use these all day every day. They are available with three different fastenings: popper, aplix and nappi nippa. I chose the popper fastening as the top of the nappy can be folded over so the nappy fits a smaller size (I believe this can also be done with the nippa version). My son has been wearing these since he was two months old. He is now eleven months and there is plenty of growing room and the nappies are still in very good condition.

You will also need to buy an outer wrap to go round these nappies - Tots Bots ones are available however I opted for the Motherease Airflow wrap because they have cute animal pictures on them and the reviews I read seemed to rate these ones more highly. Plus you will need liners to place inside the nappy so the contents can be removed and flushed away.

I have been really impressed with the performance of these nappies; they have never leaked, unlike previous brands of cloth nappy I had tried and they come with a removable booster pad to provide extra absorbency.

When the nappies first arrived they were lovely and soft however they are now much rougher (although they are still fine next to my baby's skin). The only way of keeping them soft is to wash them with fabric conditioner which unfortunately reduces their absorbency.

The only complaint I have with these nappies is that they take forever to dry. On a hot and sunny day they will dry outside in four hours or so but in the winter they can take up to two days to dry indoors.

I bought my Tots Bots from Amazon for a bargain price of £3.74 compared to £7 or £8 in most other places. I have noticed that the Amazon price tends to fluctuate so if you plan to buy these it may be worth keeping an eye on the price over a few weeks in case it falls. Currently the popper version seems to be priced at £9.99 however you can get the Nippa version for £5.04.

Overall these have been a very good buy and I plan to continue using them on my son and on any future children.

Summary: A very good choice if you are thinking about trying cloth nappies

Drying time wise, if you liked these, have alook at teh nappy nation, very similar, but the soaker unfolds so that it dries on the line VERY fast.

Never ever use fabric conditioner on cloth nappies, no matter how tempted you are. To help keep them soft you can use a water softener in the wash like Calgon, use dryer balls if you tumble dry them (best only done occasionally as can affect elastic) and my final tip is to bash them like hell, give them a good shake and rubbing the fabric together will really make a difference.
