Advantages: Easy to use, save you money!
Disadvantages: Wraps are poor.
We are lucky enough to live in an area where the council runs a nappy library. This is a service whereby you can borrow a range of different washable nappies to try for a couple of weeks in order to see which style
suits you best. This meant that I was able to try 10-15 different brands of nappy before settling on the Tots Bots fluffles (if you have a chance to use a service like this, I would definately recommend it).
Tots Bots are a company making nappies in Glasgow, and they make a
range of differnt nappy styles. We opted for the 'Fluffles'as they were incredibly quick to dry compared to others we tried, however the fluffles have now been discontinued by Tots Bots. The nappies are a two-piece system, so you have the nappy itself, then a waterproof wrap which goes over the top. We bought a birth-to-potty pack, including nappies and wraps together, as we got a good deal at the baby show. The fluffles are a shaped nappy which fasten which press-studs. The nappy
comes in one size and is then folded to fit smaller babies however this can make them very bulky on a young baby. The nappy has an in-built fleece liner which is brilliant at wicking away moisture from the babies skin and also acts as a pocket in which to stuff the booster portion of the nappy. The booster, which comes with the nappy, is an extra layer which attaches with press-studs yet can pull out of the pocket for quicker drying. I found the nappies absorbant enough with the supplied booster, however I am sure you could add another booster to the pocket if you needed greater absorbancy. The inbuilt liner meant I did not use and additional liners with this nappy, however you could of course use disposable liners to make cleaning easier!
The Tots Bots wraps I found very dissapointing. The wraps attach with
velcro at the waist and I have found it hard to make sure that the whole of the nappy is covered at the top of the legs, meaning that urine wicks away onto clothing. Also, the wrap has a binding at the edge which gets wet as the nappy underneath gets wet. I found that this meant the wrap had to be changed at each nappy change or else, again, clothes got wet. This was dissapointing as with other wraps you can use one wrap all day, just changing the nappy underneath at each change, cutting down the number of wraps that you need to buy. The wet binding also caused sore spots on my boys legs several times once they
were crawling. We gave up and bought Motherease wraps instead, which were brilliant.
Use of these nappies is very easy- we dry paled the used nappies with
a tight-fitting lid and didn't find that they needed soaking at all. They can be washed up to 60oC and dry very quickly. The nappies stayed fluffy and soft throughout the two years we were using them and have plenty more life left in them. They have saved us a fortune in disposable nappies over the time of their use.
I would definately recommend Tots Bots nappies, and would certainly use them again, although I would not use Tots wraps. For a very small effort and a couple of extra loads of washing a week you cut out all of those disposables going into the bin, and save a fortune!
Summary: I love these nappies!
