When it comes to bath products for babies you can never be too careful with what you buy and for me it was always important that I bought good quality products that did exactly what they were meant to. The toys r us non slip bath mat actually has two important functions that are, not essential, but handy to have at baby's bath time.


The first element of the bath mat is the obvious fact that it is well, a bath mat! It prevents babies/toddlers from slipping over whilst sat in the bath. The second is that it has a temperature check. One of the crab's claws turns from its original colour of blue to a deep red if the water is too hot and if it is the correct temperature it stays the same colour.


The mat is blue in design and has a range of different sea creatures such as a star fish, a fish and a crab covering the surface. It is of a reasonable size and is designed to fit any standard bath tub. The surface is a rubbery design and is smooth to touch unlike some other bath mats I have seen where they usually have a textured top to prevent slipping. This mat it made from a material that prevents slipping making bath time a more comfortable experience.


The mat is designed only for babies/toddlers that can confidently sit unaided. It is actually our 3rd piece of bath safety equipment, after the initial first bath, and the bath ring came the bath mat. I chose this one because it is decorated brightly and is very pretty and also because of the built in temperature checker. The mat does work extremely well, it sticks to the bath surface without any problems and is very securely fitted, it just needs a little push into place and then it's all good to go. The temperature check works really well also and a temperature that I thought was ok was actually showing up as being too hot so it has defiantly taught me to be more aware. I wouldn't rely on the mat totally however and every bath time I did do the conventional elbow check just to be sure, but it has never failed to work. It can be difficult to see sometimes if like my daughter your child persists on a mountain of bubbles but that's not hard to overcome, a quick swish of the water and it becomes visible again.


The only problem I have found is that now, after owning the mat for 2 years the temperature check has started to fade and as a result works less well. However this could be due to several factors the main one being age but it could also be due to the fact that when I run myself a nice hot bath I leave the mat in therefore the hot water could have caused it to fade. Apart from that the mat looks brand new, none of the other colours or pictures have faded and it is still sticking to the surface as well as it did when we first bought it. The mat is also really easy to clean, a little squirt of bathroom cleaner either side and a blast from the shower and it is always gleaming.


My daughter has never had any problems with the bath mat, she has never slipped whilst in the bath and she also likes to look at the pretty decorations on the mat. It's a really lovely mat and I would definitely recommend it; it's safe, practical and adds a splash of colour to the bathroom. The mat can be bought from toys r us for around £12.00.
