Unusual baby bath, produced happy babies! (Tummy Tub)

Advantages: The babies loved it!

Disadvantages: Slightly pricey compared to other baby baths.

I bought the Tummy Tub when expecting my boys as it seemed like a novel type of baby bath, a bit different to the others available. It is essentially a clear plastic bucket that the baby sits in. The idea is that the baby can sit in a foetal position in a womb-like environment, with warm water up to their armpits as opposed to lying in a few centimetres of water in a standard baby bath.

When it came to actually using the bath, at first it took some getting used to- my boys were quite small when born and it seemed a bit big
for them at first. The first few times we used the bath two of us did it together and still we felt like we needed another pair of hands! Once we had the hang of it though, and had gagued how much water to put in it, it was brilliant. When my twin boys were small they even both went in the bath together and loved it. For colicky babies, who were generally very unsettled in the evenings, at bath time they were always very happy. The realtively deep water compared to a standard baby bath means that the baby stays warmer and they can sit in the bath without you needing to support them with your hands, leaving you free to wash them easily.

We bought the bath from John Lewis for around £20, so as baby baths go it is not cheap, however I would buy it again as it provided many happy stress-free bathtimes.

Summary: A unique baby bath which was great to use.
