Advantages: Inexpensive and available
Disadvantages: Are there any
I bought my last jar of Vaseline as a consequence of an unfortunate incident and under direction from my Medical Doctor. During a period of particular stress I succumbed to an ear infection. My GP suggested cotton wool dipped in Vaseline in my ears during shower time. This proved effective.
The label offers advice on other uses. An applicant for minor burns, chapped skin and lips. Helps prevent nappy rash. You are advised to keep it out of reach of children along with medicines. It is waterproof.
THE PRODUCT
The last jar I bought was a small 50g tub from my local pharmacy for just over £1. Most Supermarkets sell the stuff less expensively. On the blue (almost azure label) it clearly states Vaseline pure petroleum jelly. The name Vaseline is a trademark. My tub is covered by EU directives. The major INGREDIENT white petroleum jelly BP.
The product is made by LEVER FABERGE 29614 BUXTEHUDE, GERMANY. CHESEBROUGH - PONDS LTD, LONDON SW1A 2XX

In addition and throughout the years Vaseline has helped me remove jewellery (rings). A substitute when the K.Y runs out. Zips. It feels practical not at all cosmetic in the sense of luxury. It actually smells rather like petroleum and would seem out of place in a petrol garage. This cheap versatile product comes in handy size packages too (worth buying a small pot for stand buy in the medicine cabinet).
Summary: Versatile, cheap, environmentally friendly.
