Advantages: Very versatile and gives very quick results. Very good as a barrier ointment.
Disadvantages: Quite greasy, unattractive yellowy tinge and scent.

A basic tub f petroleum jelly
Uses?
*****
Vaseline may only be petroleum jelly but it's such a versatile product. Its main aim is to sooth dry chapped skin and prevents moisture loss. As well as lips, Vaseline can also be used on dry chapped hands, legs and because of its oil content it can also be used to tame frizzy hair and unruly eyebrows.
Results?
******
Vaseline has been around for a long time - my mum used this on me as a baby and that was over 20 years ago. I remember using this myself when I was little - during the winter the back of my hands would dry out , chap and crack quite badly, and a dollop of this would magically transform them over night. Vaseline can be seen to be quite greasy, so generally I would either use it on my hands at nights with gloves, or if I don't it ends up somewhere all over the duvet covers. This oil doesn't really sink in like moisturiser so it can seem quite heavy. Some of it does eventually, it just takes a long time.
In the morning the back of my hands are often much better - the cracks and sores heal up quicker than they would without it. My hands would feel smoother, silkier and softer.
I use this on my lips as well, and a little goes a long way. The effect is almost like lip gloss and it also helps my lips from becoming dry - although unless I run out of moisturiser I'm not really too keen on it, I'm always paranoid that I might eat too much of it - plus, this is more of a barrier ointment and I personally don't really like that kind of feeling on my lips.
Cost?
****
Vaseline has tried to repackage itself into small little handy tins containing 20g for 99p. However, the larger less elegant original tubs contain 100g and only cost around 54p! It could be seen that it would be rare for any girls to be taking large chunky tubs in their handbag, but with the size of our bags these days, you'll be surprised.
However, on the other hand - the tin does come in quite handy, although it is more expensive - however, I find this also gets lost quite easily in my bag, as it's so small it often slips through to the bottom of the bag :) . Opening it is sometimes a challenge, it might just be me, but I often find it quite fiddly - the lid often has quite a strong hold of suction to the tin itself, I can never manage to open it in a nice way!
Needless to say, the large tubs are so easy to open. 100g of the stuff lasts almost forever - normally, I buy little mini stacked pots so that I can transfer some over from the large tub.
Anything else?
***********
It is not exactly the most attractive product - it has a kind of stale yellow waxy appearance, the scent doesn't really sell it either - which sometimes reminds me of petrol, but of course, this is only very mild. Apart from this and its greasiness, it's a very good decent product for a lot of uses.
Thanks for reading :) xx
