Advantages: Cheap. Versatile.
Disadvantages: None
Ever since I was a youngster I can always remember a bottle of vaseline in my house. I can't ever remember what my Mum used it for, but it was always 'out and about' so I guess it must have been used regularly. As I grew older and moved to my own house it was something I never gave a thought about, until out shopping with my then, new girlfriend, and she'd pop a small tin in the basket when out shopping. What was it that women did with these things?
Anyway shortly afterwards I found out. Travelling along in the car the tin came out. Firstly I thought she was a mechanic, and felt something needed oiling in the engine dept:-) I then found out the real reason. It was for her lips. She would smear them all over her lips to stop them drying out, and they would also look nice and fresh too, rather than dried out (she never uses lipstick). So now I knew why her lips always looked fantastic.
Now my eldest daughter puts one in her bag too. Like Mother like Daughter. Maybe in years to come her 'daughter' might too.
Obviously there are many reasons why you can use vaseline. I used to use it when I was running to prevent chaffing. Others use it to keep their skin from drying up.
According to the Vaseline website the journey started in 1859, when a 22 year-old chemist from Brooklyn, New York named Robert A. Chesebrough discovered a gooey substance known as 'Rod Wax' that was causing the oil rig workers problems, as it stuck to the drilling rigs, causing them to seize up. Not only this, the workers would smear this 'stuff' all over themselves to help ease the pain of burns and to heal sores etc. He was intrigued to find out more about this product and sent some of it home for analysis. After months of perfection and testing he managed to extract petroleum jelly. Now I bet you didn't know that!! The rest is history, as they say.
Hope this tells you more about Vaseline. I would highly recommend it. The Wife would highly recommend and so would my daughter. Need I say more. For those looking for a small tin, to carry in their bag - pop into Home Bargains you can usually get a couple of very small tins for around a pound.
Summary: A great product for all the family.
