Everyone, student or grandparent should have a tub of 'Vaseline pure petroleum jelly' in their house/flat/bungalow/cave/hut or shed.
Cheap and cheerful it is a remedy for chapped lips and other things, such as:

Before applying mascara to the eyelashes, put a small amount of vaseline onto your forefinger, then gently spread onto your eyelashes as though applying mascara, separating and pushing the eyelashes upwards to get as close to the effect you want from the mascara but with the vaseline.
Once you have done this apply mascara as normal.
Now in my recent experience this has aided me in keeping the mascara where it needs to go, and extends the effectiveness, pushing the eyelashes up, giving that wide eyed look that most girls go for.

Also if a lipgloss or lipstick is too harsh coloured for your skin tone, blend a small amount of vaseline into it and apply as normal, brings it down a tone or two and moisturises the lips at the same time!

I also use it on dry hands by rubbing a small amount onto dry skin.

There are loads of things vaseline can be used for and because its so cheap (roughly around 99p for a 50g tub) it doesn't take much to have one in every single household.

It's been around for years, and it's a tried, tested and trusted product.
