Cocalo Alphabet Soup Bedding Set
by Chippytarka
When I moved my daughter from her moses basket to her big brothers cotbed, she was using some of her brothers spare bedding. It took me awhile to find something that I liked and something that was alittle on the unusual side and not typical girlie feminine colours or patterns. I bought this set from Kiddicare.com for £79.95 around 18 ... months ago.
Why did I buy this set?
The price I know seems alittle bit crazy, but all of the bedding sets I saw I simply didn't like. Thinking that my daughter would probably be my last child I didn't want to get something I wasn't happy with and this set really stood out for me. I knew it would be pretty simple to send back if I wasn't happy with it, and so spending that amount of money on a bedding set for me had to be good quality or it was going straight back!
What was included in this set?
Quilt 100cm x 120cm 65% polyester & 35% cotton
Bumper 170.5cm x 26cm 65% polyester & 35% cotton
Blanket 120cm x 135cm 100% Polyester
Cot valance 70cm x 138cm 65% polyester & 35% cotton
Pocket organiser 63cm x 42cm 65% polyester & 35% cotton
All machine washable at 30 degrees.
How does it look?
The quilt is an actual quilt rather than duvet . Very much reminds me of a comforter. Its got a good thickness to it but not too weighty. The actual look to it reminds me a little country cottage type but updated and more modern. The quilt is sectioned into squares and rectangles. Different bright colours throughout but not bold and obvious. All have different patterns e.g circles, different style checks, plain. Different textures e.g ribbed, fleece like, cotton and smooth in texture. The rectangles have pictures of animals on them with the corresponding starting letter of their name and the name of the animal underneath. On some of the squares are a certain number of dots on them with the actual number on it also. The last few squares have large letters on them. All of the animals, letters, shapes etc have been sewn on. All around the quilt its framed with multi coloured stripes.
The cot bumper mirrored some of the sections from the quilt such as the animals, colours, textures etc ( no longer have this item ).
Cot valance is cream in colour, plain, with the section that hangs down from the cot/bed being striped in multi colours.
Blanket is cream in colour and looks and feels like fleece. Very soft and tactile. Has a sewn on picture of a giraffe with the letter g on it.
Pocket organiser ties on the cot ( or maybe onto something else ). Has six good sized opened pockets. The colours and the pictures match those on the bumper and the quilt.
So what do I think?
This was a considered purchase in my eyes. £80.00 is a lot for bedding in my opinion. The true test of a company and a product is when something goes wrong and it did with this bedding set.....
Im not the most careful when it comes to washing clothes. I tend to have a quick scan of the washing instructions if it looks like it could run or be damaged, but with this set I made sure I read it carefully. Washed it accordingly ready for my daughter to use for the first time. When I placed it all on the cot, I realised that some of the colours weren't as fresh and crisp as they were before. It looked like the red sections of the quilt or bumper, had run into the light sections of these items. It wasn't hugely noticeable, but considering how much I had paid I wasn't leaving it. I contacted Kiddicare who told me to contact the company who made the bedding directly. They asked for some photos which I emailed to them. Afew weeks later I received the same set again free of charge to replace the set I owned. No fuss, no issues, very quick and thoughtful. So we currently have two sets of bedding which we still use to this day.
Despite the initial washing problems, this bedding washes very well. They all hold their shape, the colours are still vibrant. Alittle bit of bobbling on some section of the quilt but nothing major. Quite quick to dry, doesn't crease that easily so no need to iron.
All parts to this set are as thick as they were when originally bought. The materials havent thinned out at all.
Can be used for a boy or a girl as all the colours don't point directly to one sex.
This is quite grown up in look for me. I cant see this dating very quickly so I could use this for my daughter for another few years I think.
The bedding collection itself has a great mix of items. The blanket is great when its alittle warm and you need something light weight. The quilt perfect for normal temperature nights, especially as it gets alittle colder and when its really cold the blanket can be placed underneath. The bumper was lovely and thick, very tactile and eye catching for my daughter when she was much smaller. Obviously no need for it now.
The orgainser is great to store quite afew nappies in it,but once my daughter learnt ow to stand up she easily would pull them all out onto the floor, so it remains empty but still looks nice!
Overall I am very glad I bought this set, despite the price. We still use these items every week and for me they help to dress and decorate my daughters cot, so not just bedding.
Only downside is I really wish it had contained a pillowcase, as my daughter is old enough now where having a pillow wouldnt be a problem and she enjoys sleeping on mine!
Would I buy again? Yes I would. Its such a shame that this set doesn't appear to be readily available anymore! Sometimes if you want something that's going to last, alittle different in look and well made, paying alittle more than what you are used to is not a bad thing! Read the complete review |

Peppa Pig Polka Dot junior Bed Set
by sparkleychel
== Peppa Pig Junior Bed Set ==
When my daughter was 3 we changed her room from a nursery to a big girls room , complete with new junior sized bed . A junior bed is a smaller, lower bed great for toddlers and small children and the same size as a cot-bed that takes a mattress of 70 cm x 140 cm .
Once the room had been ... pinked up it came to choosing bedding .
With a junior bed you do not have the wide choice of duvets and covers like you do with a single bed and the choice was very limited 3 years ago when this was bought.
Knowing the bedding was going to last 2-3 years before she was big enough for a single bed and probably be washed and changed a lot I didn't want to pay a fortune for it .
This 4 piece set cost around £22 when i bought it from amazon and contains a quilt, pillow, duvet cover , and pillowcase .
== Quilt and pillow ==
The 4 piece set comes all packaged in plastic with a handle at the top just like a normal duvet and is packed tightly together.
The quilt size is 120cm x 150cm, the filling is made from 100% Polyester and the outer is made from 100% Polyproylene.
The tog on the quilt is a 3.5 .
The pillow is smaller than a normal pillow at 62 cm x 42 cm.
== Duvet cover and Pillowcase ==
The duvet cover and matching pillowcase are just slightly bigger than the quilt to allow a good fit. The pattern is the same on both sides of cover and pillowcase .
The pattern is lovely with small squares with different pictures of Peppa Pig or pretty flowers, hearts and butterflies. All very colourful and very pink .
The cover does up along the bottom with poppers and the pillowcase has the usual envelope tuck
Both fit really well and the quilt stays true to the cover and does not get bunched up or twist around inside it.
== In Use ==
This was the set my daughter picked being a Peppa Pig fan at the time . I am not overally keen on character bedding , but thought for the price it was worth it for the quilt and pillow alone.
Once received and left out the bag to fluff up I was pleased with the set , the Peppa Pig isn't too in your face , and from first glance it looks like a pink and girly duvet cover .
My daughter was thrilled with it and it was her favourite of the 3 covers I ended up buying.
All 4 pieces can be washed at 40 degrees , the cover and pillowcase have been through the wash more times than i would like to count , but are still bright and vibrant in colour and have not worn anywhere.
I have washed the quilt , not as often as the cover , but it fits easily in the washing machine and dries well , keeping in shape and not going lumpy.
The warmth from the quilt is good considering it's only a 3.5 tog and quite lightweight it would be suitable for most of the year , except winter when you will need a blanket on top .
At Christmas my daughter moved into a single bed and I was preparing to get rid of the junior sized bedding, when my daughter informed me that this still fits her [ she doesn't normally dress is duvets covers honest !] and we must keep it , so we did . It is now the poorly blanket for when she is ill or we use it in the garden as a picnic blanket .
==Conclusion ==
A fantastic set at a fantastic price , 3 years on ours is still going strong . The set washes great and is well made , no stitching has come undone and all the poppers still work.
A pretty set with subtle Peppa Pig character pictures that would suit any little girls room.
the only downside is won't make your 'sleep is for wimps' child sleep any better only a miracle will do that!
5 out of 5. Read the complete review |
