Grobag Swaddling Blanket
by NUDUL
As a new(ish) mum I can honestly say I don't think I will be able to get too many blankets. They get used all the time and since it is winter sometimes two at a time. So when I saw these swaddle blankets I decided to get one and try it out.
I purchased mine from Mothercare at £19.99 but I have seen them in Boots, Tesco's ... and other stores for similar prices. They are also available online too and the prices can vary so it is worth having a look around. They come in a number of different designs and patterns, mine is a plain blue one but I have seen neutral ones with polka dots on as well.
Although it is not currently recommended (by the NHS) that babies are swaddled in their moses baskets or cots, many people do like to swaddle their babies when they are in their arms and these are perfect for it. The blanket isn't square or rectangular like most, but shaped in a triangular fashion. The bottom point comes up over the babies tummy and then the side ones wrap around, bringing the arms in and comforting the baby which is exactly what they are designed to do.
These blankets are normally 100% cotton and are machine washable at 40 degrees Celsius and can be tumble dried. I dry mine on a cool setting in the tumble and have never had any issues. They are suitable from newborn.
I really do love the idea of these blankets, however, my son isn't too keen. He doesn't like to have his arms pinned to his side by blankets when he sleeps and never has. So although they are a very good idea, and I know lots of people that use them successfully they just aren't great in practice for us, but that is by now means a reflection in the blankets but the way my son sleeps. Grobag Baby Sleeping Bag
by katyj10
We own a fair few baby sleeping bags in our house, including the gro bag branded ones as we have found them useful for helping to regulate warmth and temperature for our children's bed time when they are babies.
Usage
With our latest 5 month old, we have been using the gro bags as she is a real leg kicker so using an ... ordinary blanket is not really an option. The gro bag we have I actually won in a competition, it is white with neutral design and came with a free thermometer for the baby's room.
Description
The gro bag zips around the perimeter (from half way) and fastens under the baby's armpit with press studs on the shoulder for access. The zip enables night time nappy changes without unnecessary disturbance to your child. Our gro bag is 1.5 tog which is ideal with a sleepsuit underneath temperature wise.
In use
We noticed a massive difference with our first child when we used the gro bag at night time. She was much more settled and happy in the bag, sleeping for long periods of time. With our second, she is not happy at all whilst being zipped in to any sleeping bag but a feed usually settles her and she feels cosy to touch when wearing the bag.
My thoughts
I love these sleeping bag. They are excellent quality and help towards a good night's sleep for your baby. I like the design because it means they can't kick the covers over their face which would be dangerous. Size wise, the 0-6 months are a bit of a false economy as they don't last us six months (we don't use them until around 4 months) but the 6-12 months are much better value. From one year we began using a blanket (single duvet style) with our daughter in her cot and will do the same with this one.
Price
Whilst mine was a prize, I know these cost around £35 which sounds a lot but it's worth it for the peace of mind and the safety it promises.
Final word
These gro bags are great for boys and girls and also retain a bit of value in terms of resale. They wear well and wash well too and are versatile in the middle of the night if you want to move or change your baby. I feed our baby whilst she is wearing her gro bag with no problems at all. A great invention that has been copied by many other brands! Read the complete review |

Mamas & Papas Dreampod Sleeping Bag 2.5 Tog
by Mrb84
Sleeping bags are very popular with babies now and we really like them. We bought official Gro Bags but began to look at other brands when we realised they were all similar. We bought this from Mamas and Papas and it was in a neutral colour with little animals on.
* What is it?
A sleeping bag basically for a baby. You use ... it to keep your baby warm and safe when they are sleeping. They zip up around the baby to make them safe so they can't end up under it and they stay warm as they cannot kick it off like they could a blanket.
* Variations.
You can buy different types of sleeping bag and they come in different tog ratings. This makes it clear whether they are meant for hot nights or cool nights. You can buy these dream pods in a variety of colours and designs and sizes from Mamas and Papas.
* Opinion.
We have one of these for our baby and it's very good quality. It is easy to put on him we just open it up, lie him down and then zip it up around him. It fastens over his shoulders too so it keeps him warm but his arms are out so he can still suck his thumb or reach for a toy. It keeps him very warm as it is a 2.5 tog so it has been very useful in these cold nights when it's been cold in his room. The design is neutral as it is cream with animals on and we like that. It washes with our normal clothes and just takes a while to dry with it being quite thick. It has remained in very good condition and we have found our baby sleeps better when wearing one of these than when he just has a blanket. Very good quality. Read the complete review |
