When I came across this Disney princess slanket I thought it would be perfect for my little girl through the winter months. We enjoy nothing better than lying on the sofas watching a film while hiding from the cold weather outside. I decided to buy everyone a different version as stocking filler so we could all sit cosy together. The slanket is of course a twist on the normal blanket. The idea is this has sleeves so you can wear it rather than just putting it over you. It is made from 100% Poleyester but I have to admit I was hoping for a little more material. The material is a little thinner than we had expected it to be, and it feels more like a towel than a blanket. I did worry that it make not be as comfortable for her, but she was very happy with it and it is still soft against her skin. She likes that it is lovely and soft so she can snuggle up on the sofa. There are a number of character variations to find one to suit your child and of course there are adult versions too so you could find one for the whole family. This particular design is a warm pink colour on the main of the fleece, and then it has three of the Disney princess printed all over it.
To put the slanket on you have to put the main body of the material across your from rather than your back. You thread your arms through the sleeves and then use a small Velcro fastening at the back to secure it once it is on correctly. The sizing was a huge issue for us. As it was Disney princess design, when it said one size fits all I thought it would be aimed at younger girls. I knew that my four year old would probably be a little small for it but the size of the blanket is actually unbelievable. I can put this slanket on and it drowns me nearly touching the floor and I am 5ft 6 so not overly short. Yes this is great as it means extra blanket to cuddle up with but it makes moving around difficult for her. She can wear it while sitting on the sofa but has to remove it if she wants to go anywhere as she would fall over it. She can still fit the sleeves over her arms but she looks drowned in the never ending material.
Also it is very generous in all other areas too. The sleeves are overly baggy on me so it is difficult to get anything done. The main body of the blanket can be wrapped twice around my body, and after four children I am not exactly thin! With the sizing being so large on me you can imagine what it was like on my four year old daughter. Despite it being so roomy she finds it very restrictive as it is too large to do anything. Even shuffling around on the sofa seems like a huge task for her so she normally ends up taking it off. She still uses this slanket but as a normal blanker rather than the alternative purpose. She just throws it over her when she is feeling a little cold and because it is so large it warms her up in no time. She still loves it because it is girly and Disney princess but for its supposed use it is terrible. It is actually that large it can be dangerous which a shame as the idea seems fantastic.
We have washed this slanket a number of times on a low heat setting. As it is so large anytime you move the slanket moves wherever it wants to often meaning it becomes dirtier than other items. We tend to hang it up to dry and they only take a small amount of time to dry on an airier. The blanket does look very faded even purchasing it the colours looked a little worn out. With each wash we have found it fades a little more. The blanket is still visible as a Disney princess brand, but the princesses are faded as is the warm pink colour that the blanket first came in. It does look tired and worn out already and we have only been using it for around five weeks so not great. The blanket unfortunately has not shrunk at all in the wash which for once I was hoping for. It has held its shape rather well but as this is an oversized lump of material in the first place it's difficult to tell.
As you can probably tell we were disappointed with this slanket. It would suit an older girl best maybe a preteen but it is very misleading as the picture on the front of the packet shoes a young girl around six or seven using it. The design of a slanket is a great idea to keep drafts out and save heat on the winter months but with the over generous sizing it makes it impossible to use. Even on me the blanket is oversized, difficult to move around in but it does keep your warm. Laying the slanket over my daughter like a normal blanket has worked well and she does still enjoy the novelty of the sleeves. The material is a little thin, the design a little faded and overall just an average blanket. They retail at around £10 which does not seem so bad but I would save your money and buy a much prettier and practical normal fleece blanket.
