Grobag Baby Sleeping Bag
Advantages: Safe, simple, beautifully made
Grobags are a brilliant invention which enable babies from newborn to three years and beyond to 'wear' their bedding. They are available from www.gro.co.uk (and other suppliers) in three different tog ratings: 0.5, 1.0 and 2.5 togs and many different designs to suit boys, girls and parent's tastes! They are available from the online 'gro' store from around £20, but other manufacturers have jumped on the band wagon and you can therefore buy them cheaper in supermarkets and other baby goods retaillers.
Each Grobag has two shoulder 'straps' which do up with poppers, and a 'skirt' element which does up with either a central zip or a zip or poppers around the edge. The baby wears either a long sleeved or short sleeved bodysuit, and pyjama top or bottoms under their Grobag depending on the the temperature and the tog rating of the bag. Grobag produce a nifty little thermometer with their bags to illustrate this (e.g. in a 1 tog Grobag at 20 degrees Celsius, a baby needs to be wearing a short-sleeved bodysuit and pyjama top underneath). It all sounds a bit complicated but is actually very intuitive once you get used to it!
I have found that the best way to put Baby Frank in her Grobag is to lay it out in her cot, and then do it up around her. This way she is in bed all ready, which saves yet another transfer from one changing surface to another.
Once the baby is inside the Grobag, you do not need to remove them for the whole night; if you need to change a nappy, you simply undo the skirt part of the Grobag, and if you need to feed the baby, you can just take them out of their cot whilst inside the Grobag. This makes for minimal disruption during the night for both baby and parents.
Another great feature of Grobags is that they ensure that your baby is kept warm all night and you do not need to worry that they will kick off their covers and become cold. They are to be used instead of blankets and topsheets (but you do still need to have a sheet on your child's mattress!). Using a Grobag also eliminates any danger of your child kicking their bedding over their face.
I have been delighted with using Grobags for Baby Frank. They look cute, are safe and very practical. I will be sticking with these for as long as she is happy in them.
Summary: I won't be faffing around with sheets and blankets now!
