Mothercare Flannelette Cotbed Sheet
Advantages: lovely to sleep on, wash well
Disadvantages: don't fit all cots
I am a huge fan of flannelette sheets and always have them on my bed so when I was pregnant I knew that I would be having the same type of sheets for the cot, my one problem being that I wasn't too sure where I would get a cot size sheet from as where I got them from only made them from single size upwards.
When visiting Mothercare I noticed they sold them there so I was well chuffed and decided to pick up a couple - even better when I saw they were on buy one get one half price! Even though I was convinced I was having a girl I had decided to just buy white sheets initially but after seeing the lemon colour I quickly changed my mind.
The sheets are available in the following colours:
Cream ( Two shades )
Pink ( Two shades )
Blue ( Two shades )
Aqua ( Two shades )
I think the colour range is quite good they will co-ordinate with most baby bedding. I think the only other colour I would have liked to have seen there was mint but thats just because I have a friend who had chosen a mint themed nursery.
Flannelette is a 100% cotton, soft brushed fabric that makes it feel extra soft against your baby's precious skin and also makes it extra warm. It is said that flannelette makes it warm in winter but cool in summer - I am not sure how this works but I have found that it really does!!
The sheets come in two sizes - moses basket 70cm x 90cm and cotbed 120cm x 155cm. They are a flat sheet rather than fitted which makes it easier to tuck the sheet under the mattress however I have found that there isn't enough sheet left to tuck in after covering the mattress - this is the one bad thing I have found with these sheets as it is important to have plenty of tuck in which makes sure the sheet stays in place.
These sheets wash extremely well, and after plenty of use the sheets were still in good condition with no bobbling that can happen with some sheets. The cost of these sheets are £11.99 for two sheets which is a reasonable price. I now buy single sized sheets for my daughters cotbed as they fit much better than these cotbed sheets!
My daughter seems to enjoy sleeping on these sheets, on one occasion I had to use a polycotton sheet for her to sleep on and she really didn't have a good sleep - is that coincidence? They are so cosy to sleep on and the bed never feels cold to get into with one of them on!
As much as I love flannelette bedding, I am not sure whether I would recommend these sheets as they aren't a great size for a cotbed, and with them being cotton there is always a risk of 10% shrinkage after the first wash so it could be an even tighter fit. They are lovely quality and that can't be faulted so just double check your sizes before buying and if they will fit then I would say go for it as they are lovely.
I would normally give flannelette sheets a top score of five out of five stars but as these don't seem to fit some beds I can only give them three stars!
