Pampers Bed Mats
Advantages: Disposable, absorbent
Disadvantages: Price, they move
My 5 year old daughter is still not dry through the night which isn't a big deal but it was effecting her confidence so the doctor referred us to the urethis clinic, they first wanted us to remove her pull up to see what happened when we did. I didn't fancy buying a full plastic sheet as I remember these being very noisy when I was a child and I knew we would be putting her straight back into her pull ups anyway so thought these were the best idea.
I bought a pack of the Pampers bed mats from Asda as we use these for underneath the old people at work on a nighttime and knew that they were pretty absorbent, a pack costs £3 for 7 mats which makes them under 50p each which isn't great if you are going to end up using a lot of them however they stop damage to the mattress which of course would be a bigger cost if it needed replacing. The mats come packaged in a plastic wrapper just like a packet of nappies.
The mat is 80cm x 80cm and has little wings on it to hold it in place, the bottom layer of the mat is plastic and therefore waterproof and then the top layer is soft and absorbent so comfortable to lay on. To use the mat you simply place on the bed under the sheet and then your child lays on top of it, of course you have to try and position their bum in the middle so that if they move around a bit they are still on the mat.
We found that our daughter actually only wees once a night but it's a lot, the mat was very absorbent and held all the wee which was the whole idea of the mat. The mat didn't stay in place very well but then my daughter is a major wriggler so I don't think we would find any other brands any better than these ones. I would give these 4 stars out of 5 and would recommend them if you are only getting occasional accidents, my daughter now has tablets to help her stop wetting so we are about to remove the pull ups again and see what happens so these mats will be getting used again.
