Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier
Advantages: Great way to carry baby, comfortable
Even before I had my kids I knew I wanted to get one of these baby carriers. I had seen people with them and I thought they were a great way of carrying around your baby, especially if you want to go for walks in the country or be hands free. This is one of the items we bought in John Lewis before our first baby was born. It was quite expensive, around the £80 mark but we knew we would get use out of it. We bought the classic carrier in red because we didn't know whether we were having a boy or a girl so red was a perfect colour for us.
According to the Baby Bjorn website, "We have believed in closeness for many years. As early as 1973, we launched our first baby carrier. It was designed to carry baby heart-to-heart to provide optimal closeness between baby and parent from birth. Today, the Baby Carrier Original is a treasured classic the world over. It also has a special place in our own hearts as it has grown into an entire family of baby carriers, allowing millions of children and parents to enjoy that essential closeness every single day."
A Baby Bjorn is very easy to put on and wear and I actually find it quite comfortable. The carrier has straps at the back which go over both arms and shoulders of the parent, much like a rucksack would but then obviously your cargo is at the front not the back. The nice thing is that the straps are adjustable and so both my husband and I could wear it, we just had to pull the straps a bit when I put it on and release them a bit when he put it on. There is a little cross over section at the back where the straps go and I found this made the carrier really comfortable to wear. Also once your baby starts getting a bit bigger there is a section where you can lower the carrier to accommodate their increasing weight and the weights are actually written on a little instruction label on the carrier.
Baby Bjorn say that, "Our baby carriers allow you to enjoy the closeness between you and your child while your hands are free to do other things. Full freedom of movement for you, closeness and security for the both of you." I really loved the closeness I had with my kids when I was wearing this. When they were very young they would often fall asleep in this carrier when I was walking around and it was lovely to be able to kiss their head and whisper to them.
Once you have strapped this carrier to your back its then fairly easy to get your child in although it does need a bit of practise in the beginning. The nice thing is that you can do it by yourself although it is easier with two people. The baby puts their legs in the holes either side and then they have their arms over the top and then there are plastic slides that slide into the side of the carrier and then a round button that clicks into place. The carrier always seems safe and secure and I have never had a problem with the baby falling out or becoming uncomfortable. The nice thing is you can put the baby facing outwards if they are awake and want to look out or you can have them facing you if they are sleepy.
This carrier proved invaluable when we took a trip to America the other year. I travelled by myself and this was great in the airport as I could carry my baby in this and I had my hands free to pull my suitcase and handluggage. My husband found it very useful and carried around the baby all over Alcatraz in San Francisco. I often did my housework wearing this too. If you're a parent you must remember there are times in the very beginning when baby does not want to be put down so this is a way to keep them close and still do the chores you need to do!
I would definitely recommend this carrier to every parent.
