Advantages: Comfortable for baby
Disadvantages: Takes practice putting it on!
I live in an upstairs flat and therefore find it quite difficult to lug our heavy pushchair up and down the stairs constantly, so we made the decision quite quickly to buy a sling to make getting about with our baby easier.
There are a number of slings available on the market, but none of the ones that we saw really appealed as we didn't like how they looked overly manufactured. By chance, we saw a lady wearing a sling in the supermarket, which was exactly what we were looking for. It was basically a very simple fabric sling which housed a very comfortable looking baby! I approached the lady to ask what sling she was using and she replied that it was the Kari-Me and that she thoroughly recommended it!
At home, I investigated on the internet and found more information on stockists and decided to order one. The Kari-Me comes in 7 colours - black, white, orange, pink and blue to name a few. We decided to get a black one and eagerly awaited it's arrival.
It arrived about a week later and we opened the packaging to find our Kari-Me sling. The sling comes in it's own fabric bag/pouch which is made out of the same material as the sling and is the same colour as the sling ordered. It has a 'Kari-Me' label stitched on it in the middle of the bag, with their website address and their logo on it.
The sling itself is very simple - it is a long length of stretchy material, which is folded in different ways to make a sling. It comes with full instructions in the form of a booklet, which shows 5 different ways to wear the sling depending on the age of your baby. The booklet states that it can be used by infants from birth to 3 - 4 years or 33lb toddlers.
It did take a little practice getting used to putting the sling on, but now it's no trouble at all - however this is were it lost a star as it's not something that you are instantly comfortable with doing straight out of the packet.
I love the sling as it makes getting out and about with a small baby a lot easier. It also makes the baby feel safe and secure and encourages bonding. It is also possible to feed the baby whilst wearing the sling.
I would really recommend one of these - I love mine and my baby always drifts off to sleep in it, so it's obviously comfortable!
I bought mine from http://www.birthsupport.org.uk for £37.75.
Summary: Worth the money

- 13/11/08 I might get one of these for my daughter. Now she's one she's just outgrown the one we had for her. Have you used it with an older baby yet? Or is your baby still young? |
