Advantages: Comfort for baby, Natural Psition, Different

Disadvantages: Shoulder Pain

When I had my bubba, I was looking for something a bit different - quirky in fact to carry her in and seeing the Premaxx baby sling just made me want it. I did consider the more traditional baby carriers but decided that having a baby straight up right during the day wasn't a natural or comfortable position with their legs poking out of holes. The sling is meant to "hold baby in a more natural position" thus providing more comfort.

I originally hust looked in Mothercare and they only had a couple of designs there, so I decided to buy online to get the design I wanted. I tried the Premaxx sling on in the shop without baby and it seemed to be comfortable enough. I chose the stripey one and it cost about £28. It has different coloured stripes with 3 pockets along the strap which I find are big enough to stick a nappy in, they are great to stick small things in.

When baby arrived, I found it great to use around the house, as baby was comfortable in a natural position, I could see her and she could see me. My baby was quite happy in it, she soon quietened down in it and fell asleep. It was a real help in the early days as it allowed me to carry her around but have my hands free to do the housework and other things. I felt really close to her and I think it helped us to bond.

I did plan on breastfeeding and thought this would make it more discreet in public but I never did. My friend did borrow it for an outing and she found it easier to feed more discreetly.

My only problem was the shoulder strap, as you are putting all their weight on your shoulder, I found it came uncomfortable if you were wearing it for long peroids of time, it would dig into my shoulder. I would recommend wearing something thick to add some padding, however my boyfriend didn't have this problem but then again he has big manly shoulders!
Also, some people have said that baby gets too hot but I think my baby was fine, so I have to say I didn't have that experience.

When baby gets to the sitting up stage, you can turn the sling into like a hip support, it is sort of difficult to describe. I found it easier to carry baby with this and it provided extra support.

Overall, I really like the sling, it can be used from birth through to about one and a half years, they retail for about £35. They are really stylish and a bit different, many times people thought I was just carrying a bag around with me and then looked at me with a mixture of horror and shock when I had a baby in it. I found it reallt useful and it allowed bubba the movement and the comfort from the closeness that she needed.

Summary: Definitely something a little bit different

Looking at their advertising, it does seem to be a sling for blokes mainly. Probably the design stage centred around this and the more muscular shoulders.
