Boat Socks Three Pack
by k2705 When I was stocking up on clothes and accessories for Jayden before he was born I purchased quite a lot of things from Next, I do have a bit of a thing about everything being co-ordinated so when I bought him a new outfit I then had to buy all the accessories to go with it including hats, socks and soft pram shoes. At the moments with ... him being on the small side still the shoes are still a bit big for him despite them being suitable for newborns, because of this he is just wearing his socks. When I was shopping on the Next website I bought him a blue and yellow shirt to wear but of course had to have the matching accessories, so when I spotted the Pack of 3 Boat and Stripe Socks in blue and yellow on their website I just had to have them as they were a perfect match to the shirt I had purchased. The Pack of 3 Boat and Stripe Socks do not come in any packaging, from what I can remember they were just all fastened together with a small plastic tag with was simply removed by cutting it. In this pack of socks each pair is a slightly different design, one pair is a bright blue with thin white stripes and a yellow toe area and heel, the second pair are white with thin yellow stripes and a bright blue heel and toe area, the third pair are grey with thin white stripes, a blue heel and toe area and a picture of a little yellow boat on them. As I have said I purchased these socks to go with the shirt that I had also bought for Jayden, however with the grey and white in two of the pairs they will also go with other outfits so he will get a lot of wear out of them. The socks are designed to come just above the ankle, although on Jayden they do come half way up his calf if I pull them right up meaning he does end up with sock marks on his legs. The socks have elasticised tops to them just like adult socks to help hold them in place. I wanted the socks to be soft and comfortable against Jayden's skin, which when they arrived I was pleased to discover that they were, I was quite surprised that the socks were not all made from the same products, for example * Both Striped Pairs were made from - 78% Cotton, 20% Nylon and 2% Elastine * The Boat Pair of Socks were made from - 71% Cotton, 27% Nylon and 2% Elastine Personally I would have thought that all 3 pairs of socks would have been made up the same, however this wasn't really important, the look and feel of the socks were the main things that mattered. As well as the look and feel of the Pack of 3 Boat and Stripe Socks being important the next thing was how well they washed after all babies do tend to get themselves dirty and it was obvious that the socks were going to be washed on a regular basis. The socks can be washed in a regular 30 or 40 degree wash and need to be washed with similar colours, other than that there are no special care instructions for this product. The socks have been washed and worn several times now and I have been impressed, the socks are quite brightly coloured and so far despite regular washing they have kept their colour really well and are just as bright as when I bought them. The socks have also all kept their shape extremely well, they have not lost their elastic and the fabric has not bobbled, they really do look as good as new. The fabric is of a decent thickness, it is not really thick so that you can only wear them in the winter, yet it is thick enough to be hardwearing. Jayden is always laying kicking his legs about or in his bouncer kicking his legs meaning the socks are being rubbed on either the carpet or fabric of the bouncer, yet despite this the fabric of the socks remains just as it was when I purchased them. As I have mentioned I purchased the Pack of 3 Stripe and Boat socks from Next's website, although this product may also be available in store, they cost me just £4.00 which I thought was very good value for money especially as the quality of this product is excellent. The socks come in a variety of sizes including * 0 - 3 Months * 3 - 6 Months * 6 - 12 Months * 12 - 18 Months I bought Jayden the 0 - 3 Months, when I first tried them on him they were too big, the sizes are quite generous but also he was small and most things I had bought him were too big, however he is now just over 6 weeks old and the socks fit him much better, I think if your baby is an average size then the socks would fit comfortably, the sizes are generous so I would definitely stick to the size which matches your baby's age. I would definitely recommend the Pack of 3 Stripe and Boat socks, they are of excellent quality and easily withstand the wear and tear of being worn by a baby, they can also withstand constant washing and still look as good as new. The socks are reasonably priced and personally I like the combination of colours, I purchased them for a specific outfit I had bought but the colours in the socks mean that they will also go with a variety of other colours as well. I also like the fact that the socks are made from a soft fabric, they are gentle against Jayden's skin and are not rough and rub his skin as he moves around. I would certainly purchase a similar product in the future and would recommend them. Read the complete review |

Blue Bear Bibs Three Pack
by k2705 When I was shopping for Jayden's clothes before he was born I realised that I had only got a couple of bibs for him, and that really wasn't going to be enough. I decided to have a look and see what Next had available as I wanted to buy a pack of bibs rather than just one. I spotted the Blue Bear Bibs in a pack of 3, they were ideal for ... what I wanted and quite cute as well. The bibs actually came in different colours but I opted for the blue ones as we knew that we were having a boy. As I have said the Blue Bear Bibs come in a pack of three, all of the bibs are the same style just with a different pattern or picture on them. The bibs have a decent sized head hole so that they will fit babies of all sizes and they are also of a decent length, I find that when I have one of these bibs on Jayden and he is laying back having his bottle the bib covers the majority of the front of him so no milk gets dribbled onto his clothes. The bibs are a square shape but with rounded corners, the bits which go around your baby's neck are part of the front of the bib, they are not sewn on as an extra, these fasten around your baby's with a small pieces of Velcro, the Velcro used on the bibs is especially designed for the use on babies, to touch it actually feels smooth unlike regular Velcro which is quite rough and sharp to touch and could scratch your baby's skin, the smooth Velcro used on this product will not scratch your baby but also effetely sticks and stays in place during feeding. The 3 bibs in the Blue Bear Bib pack each have a different design, one bib has a plain white background and has small pale blue dots covering it, the whole bib is then edged with a white trim. The second bib is blue and white horizontal stripes with a pale blue trim to match the blue stripes in the bib. And the third bib is all pale blue with a picture of a teddy bear on it, this looks like it has been hand drawn on in a darker blue, written underneath is written "My First Best Friend" again this is in the same dark blue and looks like it has been written by hand, this bib also has a pale blue trim to match the background. All 3 of the bibs have a white back to them which feel similar to a towel type material and a small label stitched onto the edge of each bib in a cream coloured fabric with the word Next on it. When I was looking for bibs for Jayden I wanted something that was going to be both soft on his skin and also something that was going to be absorbent as well. The main front of the bib and the bits that go around your babies neck are made from 100% cotton, this is excluding the trims that go around the whole edge of the bibs. Each of the bibs have a backing to them which feels a bit like a towel type material which I have mentioned, this is very absorbent, again ideal for keeping your babies clothes clean, this material is made from 80% cotton and 20% polyester, I'm not sure what the trims are made from, to me they feel like they are also made from cotton, however the information on the bibs says that the fronts of the bibs are cotton excluding the trims. The Next Blue Bear Bibs are very soft to touch so wiping Jayden's mouth with them is not a problem I know that they will be gentle on his skin. The bibs are also absorbent this is helped by the backing of the bibs so any spills or dribbles of milk are soaked away keeping Jayden's clothes clean and dry. Obviously the Blue Bear Bibs get a lot of use and are always in the wash so it was important that these washed well and could withstand constant use. Washing the bibs is easy they can simply be washed in a regular 30 or 40 degree wash with your other clothes, personally I normally wash ours on a 40 degree wash as I do find that sometimes the milk or if he is a little bit sick does not always come out first time so a slightly hotter wash helps with this. I have to say that after a lot of washes I am pleased with the Next Blue Bear Bibs, they really do look as good as new, they have kept their shape, have not faded and the cottons material on the fronts of the bibs has not bobbled at all, they have withstood constant washing extremely well making them long lasting, I didn't want something that was going to fall apart after a few washes, and this certainly isn't the case with these. Obviously these bibs are only available in Next as they are one of their own brand products, the three bibs cost me £5.50, personally I thought this was very good value for money. The pack of bibs were cheap to buy and the fact that they are so hardwearing means that in my opinion they are well worth the money. Overall I would definitely recommend the Blue Bear Bibs from Next, as I have mentioned they bibs are excellent at doing what they are supposed to, they are absorbent and keep Jayden's clothes clean and dry during feed. The bibs are also cheap to buy but are also of an excellent quality, they are well made and hardwearing. The fabric is extremely soft so will be gentle on your baby's skins. I would certainly recommend these bibs to anyone and would also consider buying them again in the future. Read the complete review |

Red Gingham Shirt Body
by k2705 As well as stocking up on all the baby essentials I would need before I had Jayden I also did quite a bit of clothes shopping too. One place which I did buy quite a lot of stuff from was the Next website. During one of my many browses through the website I spotted the Red Gingham Shirt Body, it was extremely cute and a bit different to ... some of the other stuff I had seen. They had the shirt in the size I needed so I just couldn't resist buying one. The Red Gingham Shirt Body is basically a red and white checked shirt but in the style of a baby vest or body suit. The top half of the shirt has all the regular features of a normal shirt, it has a collar which is of a reasonable thickness so that it sits flat, this is handy for a small baby who spends a lot of time laying down or leaning back. There is a small pocket on the top right hand side of the shirt, this has a small white stripe sewn on it with 3 red stars, also on the front of the shirt are 3 red buttons which work and are used to undo the shirt and help with dressing and undressing your baby, the buttons finish at approximately your baby's tummy so you can open the shirt quite wide which gives you more flexibility. The Red Gingham Shirt is long sleeved, the sleeves have proper cuffs which are fastened with a single red button to match the ones on the front of the shirt, again these buttons are functional should you need to undo them to help with getting your baby's hands through. Whilst the top of the product is in the style of a regular shirt the bottom half is in the style of a baby's vest or body suit, the leg holes both are edged with a bright red material to match the red in the checked pattern of the shirt, this fabric is a stretchy softer material compared to the actual shirt itself making it more comfortable for you baby to wear, these soft trims means that the fabric will not rub on your baby's skin, the trims go all the way around each leg and between the legs. The shirt fastens between your baby's legs with 2 small poppers, the same as those on regular vests. The legs and bottom of the vest are large enough to accommodate your baby's nappy and the poppers easily fasten up around it without having to stretch the fabric. When I purchased the Red Gingham Shirt Body I did wonder about how soft the main part of the shirt would be, I wondered whether it might be a bit rough and also a bit stiff and restricting, however this was not the case. Before I put Jayden in the shirt I did wash it through with fabric softener in order to soften the fabric up, once I had done this the shirt did not feel hard or rough at all, in fact the fabric felt as though it would be quite soft on Jayden's skin. The shirt is made from 100% cotton excluding the trims, this makes the fabric of the shirt breathable, again useful for a small baby that is laying down or sitting leaning back most of the time. The shirt comes in a variety of sizes including * Up to 1 Month * Up to 3 Months * 3 - 6 Months * 6 - 9 Months * 9 - 12 Months * 12 - 18 Months I purchased the 0 to 3 Months size as I wanted it to last a while, I thought if I purchased the 0 to 1 Month size Jayden would out grow it quickly. When the shirt arrived it did look quite small so I thought it would be ideal size wise. When Jayden arrived I had to wait just over a month in order for him to wear it as it was far too big for him. Although it was suitable for new born babies Jayden was a small baby despite his weight being within the normal range, this was a problem I had with most of his clothes, however he has now grown a little and although the shirt is still too big for him it does fit him well enough to get away with it. Although the shirt states that it is suited for a baby up to 3 months old I really think it is going to last him longer as the sizes are also quite generous, I have found this with a lot of the Next stuff I bought, compared to some of the other new born items I purchased the Next Red Gingham Shirt Body was slightly larger. As I have said I purchased this item from the Next website and it cost me just £9.00, I thought this was very reasonable. The shirt is of an excellent quality and is very well made and finished. The shirt will get worn and washed quite a lot so it needs to be hardwearing and of good quality to withstand this sort of wear, I feel that baby clothes do get a bit of a hard time so it is important that they are of a good standard to withstand the constant washing. The shirt can be washed with similar coloured items and using a 30 or 40 degree wash. I would definitely recommend the Next Red Gingham Shirt Body, it is of an excellent quality and very reasonably priced. The shirt is easy to put on and remove from your baby, the wide opening down the front of the shirt and the cuffs which unbutton all help when it comes to dressing your baby in this item. The fabric is soft and flexible and is not restricting as I originally thought it might be and the edged leg holes also make it more comfortable for you baby to wear. I have put this shirt with a pair of jeans when I have dressed Jayden in it and have to admit he looked both incredibly cute and smart in it, the fact that the shirt buttons up like a vest means you do not have to worry about your baby's body being exposed and them getting cold, with a pair of trousers the shirt looks just like a normal shirt tucked in, as the shirt was a bit big on Jayden it meant the shirt didn't look like it was tightly tucked in. This shirt would be ideal if you were taking your baby to a slightly formal occasion, it looks smart yet is comfortable for you baby to wear all day. I would definitely recommend this shirt to anyone and would certainly consider purchasing similar products in the future. Read the complete review |
