A great pair of cruisers from Clarks

When I was a child my parents religiously bought me Clarks shoes. I remember to this day going to have my feet sized and having to put my foot in a machine that when activated metal sides would come out to accurately measure the size and width of my feet. I remember feeling so worried that the machine wouldn't stop and would crush my foot - the thought still sends shivers down my spine to this day. Now as a mother myself I understand the importance of having correctly fitted shoes for my daughter and as soon as she was cruising around I made the trip to my local Clarks and had her feet measured.

My daughter at 16 months only has size 2 feet and is the narrowest fitting, an F. This makes it hard to finding 'walkers' as they tend to start in the next size up or if they do have them they come in limited styles. For nursery I wanted a pair of shoes which were adequate but I didn't want to pay a small fortune for the leather style shoes as I didn't want them ruined. After browsing in store I opted for the Clarks Doodles Kirsty (heavens knows why they are called Kirsty!) and at a reasonable £14.00 they were ideal.

Clark's description "Sweet and simple girl's shoes in a feminine shade of hot pink fabric. Perfect for spring and summer, this lightweight style has twin riptape fastenings - for easy on-off and adjustability - and a padded collar for comfort."

Clarks Doodles Kirsty come in a bright fuchsia pink and that is the only colour available which is a slight shame as it would have been nice to have a few more colours to choose from but the bright pink colour which still be perfectly fine. The front of the shoe has a white leather type toe to it which matches the white textured rubber sole. My daughter quite likes to press the textured sole as it is made up of lots of little circles and I guess at 16 months old it is quite interesting to her! Fortunately as the front part of the shoe is a synthetic material it is easily cleaned with a damp cloth.

The shoes themselves are made from a canvas type material (with light pink stitching) which seems tough and sturdy but gentle enough on a child's feet. They do up with two velcro (or riptape as its known) straps of the same material, one of which has the word 'Doodles' embroidered on. Now my daughter knows how to un-do shoes and she certainly has mastered the art of un-doing velcro straps but these do manage to stay in place! Inside the shoes there is a pretty patterned lining which suits the fuchsia pink of the shoes. For me, the shoes are incredibly soft and supple despite being made from a canvas type material and inside the lining is incredibly soft and slightly padded so they are specifically designed to be soft enough but supportive enough.

On my daughter they are obviously a good fit (having had them sized) and the come up enough up the back of her heel for them to be incredibly supportive when walking around. They don't gape at the sides when done up, they fit her feet perfectly and she has just enough room to grow into them slightly without them being too big. They are incredibly supportive around her heels and the sides of her feet which at her age is vital. The shoes were originally classed as 'walkers' by Clarks but have since been changed to 'cruisers' due to the type of shoe and to the sole. Now personally my daughter is walking and has no trouble whatsoever in these shoes as they are flexible and supportive enough. At her age I would rather her feet be supported than not and these shoes do the job just fine.

My daughter has had these Doodles for around a month now and does wear them probably 4 days out of 7 and although she won't wear shoes like an older child would I am pleased at how well the shoes are fairing. Yes they have a few marks and the sole isn't as white as they were when new but with a damp cloth the shoes look as good as new. They fully support my daughter's feet when walking, they haven't rubbed her or caused her any discomfort which in my opinion is great as I know when she is walking around the shoes aren't causing her any discomfort. I will be buying the next size up as I really do think these are a fantastic pair of shoes for such a reasonable price from Clarks. Definitely a recommendation!
