A gorgeous swimming outfit for babies

Despite my best intentions, I didn't actually get around to taking my youngest son swimming until he was around nine months old. By that age, he was a little scared of the great expanse of quite cold water and getting him confident about going in to the water took quite a long time each week. I decided that it would be helpful if my little boy had an extra layer over his swim nappy, particularly to cover his tummy and chest and to keep him warm and comfortable both in and out of the water. As soon as I spotted this lovely little 'Finding Nemo' baby swimming outfit in Tesco, I was absolutely smitten and put it straight in the trolley, without even looking at the price tag. It was probably a good thing I didn't as the set cost £8 for a simple stretchy short sleeved top and trunk style briefs, which I think is pretty expensive for what it is. That said, this really is a gorgeous little 'surfer' set (which is why it's such a shame that Dooyoo haven't put up the picture of this set from the Tesco website.) The predominant colouring is an attractive pastel blue shade with a bright bold image of Disney's Nemo smiling away on the front of the top, along with numerous tiny little Nemo clown fish swimming all over the little trunks. The set has been worn and washed several times over the past few months and the bright colours and images haven't faded in the slightest. As well as looking incredibly cute, particularly when adorned by my one year old son who looks the bee's knees in this, this is also a totally practical little oufit. The two-piece is made predominantly from nylon but the addition of 20% elastane gives the fabric enough stretch to make both the top and bottoms incredibly easy to slip on and off, even when wet. I always use this over a disposable Huggies Little Swimmers swim nappy and the trunks fit over easily without looking silly or over-stretched. Unlike bulkier vests , the outfit still gives my little one total freedom of movement and he is able to splash about in the water (once he's gained his confidence) without being restricted in any way. The thin, flexible fabric also dries incredibly quickly after washing, which was really useful on holiday. Despite feeling so thin, the set does seem to keep my little boy warm and comfortable both in the water and when he is sitting or standing at the edge. Even on the days when he is less confident about going into the water, he doesn't shiver or seem overly cold which is exactly what I wanted from this set. In terms of sizing, the set is available in a range of sizes from 3-6 months up to 12-18 months. I purchased the 9-12 month size, which was my son's age at the time and have found the set to be completely true to size. Fortunately, as my son is a little smaller than average and as the outfit has so much stretch in it, it still fits comfortably even though he is now over a year old. I would imagine that we can easily get a few more months wear out of this which makes the initial purchase price seem far more reasonable. I totally love this little set - it is just a pity that there is no image here to see. This Disney branded set no longer features on Tesco's clothing website but it would be well worth looking in Tesco store for this lovely little swimming set, particularly as seasonal clothing is often reduced at this time of year. I will be really sad when my little boy eventually grows out of this!
