“ Brand: Mothercare / Type: Gift set „
Whilst I was pregnant with Jamie we brought lots of baby clothes in newborn and 0 to 3 month sizes but what we had not planned for was her arriving into the world 6 weeks early weighing just 5lb and needing tiny and early baby clothes so off my mother in law went to mothercare as very few places stock the smaller sizes and this was one of the sets she brought for Jamie.
This same set is available in the grey unisex colours above, yellow, blue and pink. We have got the pink one.
The eight pieces you get in the set are as follows:
A pair of scratch mittens which to my surprise are actually sized to match the other items in the set rather than being just one size like a lot of mittens are.
A bib, ours in the pink set had a lovely little heart stitched on to it and once again the bib was sized to tiny baby too so fitted our little bundle of joy perfectly with a popper fastener not velcrow.
A hat which to my dissapointment was not sized to match the bundle like the rest of the items and is still too big for Jamie now long after she has grown out of the rest of the set.
A vest which was plain but lovely feeling.
A long sleeved top with poppers on it, this in the pink set had a heart stitched on it just like the bib and had made with love written inside the heart.
A pair of striped trousers with feet in them, I love these when they are new born and they fitted perfectly.
A thin coat which was great as our baby was born early august so it wasnt particularly cold.
A spotted baby grow.
Priced at £20 this looks like you are getting a good set for your money considering mothercares prices are always expensive and it really is a lovely looking set but if I am honest with you I was really dissapointed in the way it washed and wore as it had started to loose its shape and bobble after 5 washes which is what I expect from a supermarket clothing range not from mothercares clothes so the quality of these is quite poor so I am only giving these 2 stars for there prettyness and how many items you get for your money. I also found that jamie out grew the coat first then the vest top and trousers but was some weeks later before she out grew the baby grow so the sizing with these sets is not perfect either.
Even before Jayden was born he had so many clothes ranging from various cute little outfits to the more practical items that he would need. As soon as we found out what we were having I made a start on my baby shopping, one item that my parents purchased was the Mothercare Baby Boy Blue Bear 8 Piece Gift Set, we bought this as we wanted a few basic bits for Jayden and this set provided those with the added bonus that they all matched (I have a bit of a thing about things being colour co-ordinated) the set was an ideal starter piece for Jayden's wardrobe.
The Mothercare Baby Boy Blue Bear 8 Piece Gift Set is basically a collection of baby basics including the following items
* 1 Short Sleeved Body Suit
* 1 Long Sleeved Body Suit
* 1 Sleepsuit
* 1 Pair of Leggings
* 1 Cardigan
* 1 Bib
* 1 Hat
* 1 Pair of Scratch
All of these items come in a combination of pale blue fabric, pale blue and white stripy fabric and pale blue and white spotty fabric, all of the items in this set are made from 100% cotton making them extremely soft against your baby's delicate skin. All of them items are finished to a high standard making them safe for newborn babies to wear, they are designed to allow your baby to move freely without feeling restricted but at the same time keeping them warm and cosy.
* The Short Sleeved Body Suit
This body suit is made from a light blue, slightly ribbed cotton material, it is edged around the next, sleeves and the legs. The sleep suit has an enveloped neck which makes it easy to get on and off and poppers around the bottom allowing you to easily and quickly change your baby as and when needed, these poppers are also nickel free so that they will not irritate your baby's skin. This body suit also has the words Made With Love embroidered in the centre of it.
* Long Sleeved Body Suit
The long sleeved body suit is very similar to the short sleeved body suit in style in that it has an envelope neck for taking it on and off easily and nickel free poppers around the bottom for quick and easy changing. This sleep suit is made from a white cotton fabric with light blue spots covering it, the cuffs, neck and the legs are edged in plain white.
The leggings in this set are made from pale blue and white stripy cotton fabric, they have an elastic waistband making them easy to pull on and off of your baby and they also have enclosed feet which will help to keep your baby's feet warm and cosy without the worry of their socks coming off all of the time.
The cardigan is made from a pale blue fabric with a blue and white spotty section on the inside of the neck, however this cannot be seen when worn. The cardigan has 2 small pockets on the front and poppers up with 5 small nickel free poppers down the front. There is also a small blue teddy and the words made with love embroidered on the top of the cardigan at one side
The bib in this set is made from the same pale blue fabric that the other items in this set are made from, the back of the bib is white with blue spots covering it. Taking up the majority of the front of the bib is a large teddy bear face embroidered in blue, the bib fastens around your baby's neck to one side with one small nickel free popper allowing you to easily remove the bib.
Jayden actually wore this hat the day he came home from hospital as it went perfectly with his coming home outfit. The hat is in the style of a beanie hat with a small knot on the top, it is made from white cotton material with pale blue spots over it, the hat simply pulls on and off of your baby's head and the cotton fabric makes it easy to stretch when putting it on
* Scratch Mitts
To be honest Jayden hardly wore his scratch mitts, I would put them on him to help protect his skin especially when he was really small, however within seconds of putting them on he would have removed them, to be honest I gave up in the end with these. However the scratch mitts are just like small mittens, there are no fingers and they look just like socks for your hands, they are made from a pale blue cotton fabric and the cuff is slightly ribbed to help keep them in place (although this didn't work for us) On the under side of the scratch mitts are little paw prints in a slightly darker blue.
The Baby Boy Blue Bear 8 Piece Gift Set is only available from Mothercare as it is one of their own branded product, the gift set costs £20.00 which personally I think is a very good price, you get 8 items for this all of which are an excellent quality, well made and durable.
This set also comes in pale pink as well as the pale blue, both of which have the same bear design on them, both sets are basically the same, the only difference between the 2 is the colour, I actually know this from experience as we were originally told we were having a girl so we bought this set in the pale pink, however just over a month later we were then told we were having a boy so we had to take the pink set back and change it for a blue one. The set comes in a range of sizes including* Early Baby* Tiny Baby* New Born* 0 to 3 Months* 3 to 6 Months We purchased Jayden the New Born size as we bought it before he was born and obviously didn't know what would be the best size for him, when we first tried it on him it was a bit on the big side as Jayden was quite small when he was born, however I think the next size down would not have lasted him very long. The set does not go up to a very high age, but it is more something that is aimed at younger babies, I also liked the fact that they do this set in really small sizes as it means there is something for everyone.
Overall I would highly recommend the Mothercare Baby Boy Blue Bear 8 Piece Gift Set, Jayden had a lot of wear out of his set and he could easily mix and match the items from this set with other outfits he had. Although he has now grown out of this set it did last him a long time, he actually grew out of the hat first and the leggings as I think he is going to be tall like his Dad, however the body suits, the cardigan and the bib lasted him a long time.
All the items in the gift set are machine washable on a regular 30 or 40 wash and I found they washed up well retaining their colour and shape.
This set is ideal to buy for your baby as a start to their new wardrobe, or it would make an excellent gift for someone having a new baby. The whole set is of an excellent quality and is certainly well worth the money.
