An ok dress up for Christmas

As it was my daughter's first Christmas this year I wanted to make it a bit special but also fun at the same time. I was that embarrassing mum who put my poor daughter in a costume for Christmas and yes I will be that embarrassing mum who will show the pictures on her 18th birthday! Out of all the outfits you can get for Christmas such as elves, Father Christmas and Christmas puddings I opted for a reindeer. After looking around at a few reindeer outfits I bought mine from Mothercare as I managed to get it reduced just before Christmas. I quite like Mothercare for clothes as the fit tends to suit my daughter. She is still only 8lb at 3 months old so she is incredibly petite! My local store didn't have any in stock but I managed to purchase it online and I managed to have it delivered to the store. The reindeer outfit is incredibly cute! It is light brown in colour with a soft cream tummy patch. The feet are cream and have a reindeer face embroidered on, complete with mini antlers! The all in one suit features a hood which comes with antlers which are stitched on to stay secure. However, the antlers don't really stay up right and tend to lie flat, this is probably due to how the suit is packaged. Also on the hood is a larger reindeer face complete with red nose embroidered on. What I like about the face is that it isn't too cartoon like. On the back of suit is a little tail stitched on so it comes away from the suit. The suit is done up by a zip (same colour as the suit). For me personally having a 2 month old child at the time I would have preferred poppers as I found that the top of the zip was quite rough and if my daughter had fit in the suit fully this would have rubbed her chin and the top of her neck which would have definitely been a shame. The all in one suit is made of 75% polyester and 25% cotton. I found that even though it was incredibly soft almost velvet like it was incredibly thin and quite flimsy. I don't know what I was really expecting from a dress up costume but it would have been nice if the suit was a bit thicker and felt a bit more sturdy. On the whole the suit felt a bit cheap especially with a thin zip. This was a let down especially coming from Mothercare. My daughter wore this suit pretty much throughout Christmas which meant it was washed a few times. It certainly held up in a 40°c wash and dried well on a cool heat in the tumble drier. It didn't loose its shape and it didn't shrink. It also dried well on a radiator and didn't stiffen up at all. The velvet type fabric didn't change in its appearance either which was good as it remained soft. The reindeer suit is still available from Mothercare and is currently reduced from £15.00 - £16.00 to £7.50 - £8.00. It comes in sizes tiny baby, new baby, 0-3mths, 3-6mths,6-9mths, 9-12mths, 12-18mths, 18-24mths. For me, I'm glad I didn't pay the full price as I think the suit was overpriced at its original retailing price. The material is too thin and almost has a cheap feel to it which is a shame. Other than that issue and apart from the zip the embroidery is perfect and adds a lovely bit of detail to this suit. My daughter was more than happy in this suit (she did wear a long sleeved vest under it) even though the 0-3 month size was a bit large on her. It didn't rub anywhere or irritate her skin. A good novelty item which gave us some gorgeous photos on her first Christmas which are irreplaceable so for me it was worth buying the suit. A recommendation for those picture moments but would be nice if it was worth the price you pay.
