Disadvantages: Not waterproof
If you've already gone through a variety of pram shoes for your baby and given up, either because they just take them off, they fall off or they struggle to walk in them, then you need to buy a pair of Shoo Shoos!
Although I am a firm believer of bare feet being the best option for babies learning to walk (and children generally!), there are times when that is just not practical, and for those times Shoo Shoos are the next best thing! The sole of the shoe is made of soft, flexible suede which means baby can still feel the floor, making it much easier for them to balance and develop the confidence to take those first few steps. The fact that it is suede also means that they are quite 'grippy' which is great for laminate/tiled floors. If you're baby's not at the walking stage yet, then Shoo Shoos are perfect for adding an extra layer for those cold winter months. The top of the shoe is made of soft leather and is nice and wide to allow growing feet to develop unrestriced. Then there is the elastic heel! This is what makes these shoes stay put like they are glued on! No matter how much kicking my little girl did as a baby, or how much pulling she did when she was older, she never managed to get these shoes off! Yet the elastic isn't so tight it's digging into baby's skin, it's just in exactly the right place! And because it's elastic, getting the shoes on and off is a two second job - for an adult!
Not only are these shoes a great design for developing feet, they also come in a fantastic range of designs, there really is something for everyone - and if, like me, you had a girl and very quickly got fed up of everything being baby pink, then you will be over the moon when you look at the Shoo Shoos range!! Admittedly there is still a lot of pink, but they have enough other great designs for girls to be forgiven for this!
My daughter had two pairs of these, 0 - 6 months and 6 - 12 months. She didn't have any other footwear so she was either in these or bare feet. They are exceptionally well made and both pairs were still in fantastic condition when she had finished with them. She started walking shortly after her first birthday and although these are suitable for light outdoor use, they are not waterproof so we decided to buy her some 'proper' shoes (which, incidently were from Clarks and fastened with Velcro - she would have them off in seconds!).
The RRP for Shoo Shoos is around £17, but you can often pick them up for as little as £10. However, considering your child should get at least 6 months wear out of these I don't think £17 is a bad price at all!
Summary: The next best thing to bare feet and they look great!
