Heinz Chocolate Biscotti 9mth+
by trueword009
I have been buying these biscuits as part of my shopping from when my daughter was about 9months old, these chocolate flavoured ones were by far her favourite out of the different flavours. At first it took her a while to get use to eating them as they are quite soft and brake into chunks. So best once your little one has established ... chewing. They are meant to be a source of iron, contain vitamins and minerals, no preservatives and artificial colours, so I know they are healthy for my child to eat.
These were very handy whilst going out as the packet of biscuits is small enough to carry around with you, though I usually put them in a lunch box as I don't want them to go soft, its a shame the packet isn't resealable, but I am very happy with these biscuits, as my baby loved them and they don't cost to much. I would definitely recommend them. Read the complete review |

Cow & Gate Baby Balance Creamed Porridge
by k2705
Recently me and my husband have been trying Jayden on solids, we started off with baby rice which he loved, as he was getting on so well with the solids and he was less hungry between bottles we have been keeping him to having breakfast, lunch, dinner and then a bottle before bed. Although he loves his baby rice I was a bit worried that ... he might get board having the same thing for all three meals so I decided to buy him some baby porridge to start him off on. We had been using the Cow and Gate baby rice so decided to purchase the Cow and Gate Sunny Start Creamy Porridge.
Packaging
The Cow & Gate Sunny Start Creamy Porridge comes in a rectangle cardboard box, the top part is red with a large Cow & Gate logo, just underneath this are the words Sunny Start in red and orange writing with the name Creamy Porridge just beneath this. Right at the bottom of the box is information about the porridge, and a large section of the box is taken up with a picture of a baby enjoying a bowl of the porridge sat at a table. The back of the box contains some product information as well as the how to prepare the porridge, the sides of the box contains information such as the ingredients and the nutritional information, this is all clearly written in blue writing. The actual porridge comes inside a plain foil bag inside the box which keeps the powder from leaking out of the box as well as keeping it fresh.
The Porridge
The Cow & Gate Sunny Start Creamy Porridge looks very similar to the Cow & Gate baby rice, it is in the form on a fine powder but instead of being white it is a creamy yellow colour, it has a sweet smell to it, however this is not overly strong at all. The porridge contains 6 key vitamins and minerals and has no added sugar or salt, it also has no artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives as well as being gluten free and contains no egg. the porridge is mild and contains nothing that will upset your baby's tummy, you do not have to worry about feeding your baby anything artificial.
When the porridge is made it forms a smooth paste which is slightly sticky, I usually warm the porridge before giving it to Jayden, however before it is warmed it has an almost gritty texture to it which does not seem to be very appealing at all, however once warmed it is smooth and has quite a nice creamy smell to it, the porridge maintains its yellowy colour and I have to admit I have tried it and it really does not taste that bad at all, it is nothing like regular adult porridge but it does taste creamy and quite tasty.
How to Prepare
Preparing the Cow & Gate Sunny Starts Creamy Porridge is very quick and easy to make. You simply add 1 spoon of porridge to 3 spoonfuls of boiled water and stir, now I personally add the porridge to Jayden's milk from his bottle, I do this purely because the porridge is extra food to Jayden's normal bottle of milk so if he eats his porridge made with water and then does not finish his bottle I am concerned that he will not be getting all of the milk that he needs so if I make the porridge with milk he is having milk in the cereal as well as in his bottle. The amounts are just a guideline, as your babies appetite grows you can add more porridge to the bowl and more or less water (or in my case milk) depending on the texture you want, with the size spoon that Jayden has I find that 2 spoonfuls is the perfect amount, I then add some of his milk from his bottle until I get it to a smooth paste. Once I have the consistency that I want I then heat it in the microwave, I do have to be careful doing this in case there are hot spots, however I do wait until it is cooler before I feed it to Jayden, but I do not think he would be too impressed with cold porridge to start the day with, also heating the porridge gets rid of the gritty consistency.
Warnings
These are written on the side of the box and are not overly clear to find, however they include
* If serving warm check the temperature before feeding it to your baby
* Contains naturally occurring sugars so clean your baby's teeth especially before bed
* Do not leaving your baby during feeding time
Price and Availability
The Cow & Gate Sunny Starts Creamy Porridge can be purchased from most supermarkets as well as chemists such as Boots, Superdrug and Lloyds. We purchased ours from our local Tesco and the 125g box costs just £2.05, personally I feel this is a good price for this product, we only use a small amount of the porridge at a time and this makes a decent amount of porridge for Jayden to eat for breakfast.
My Opinion
We have been using Cow & Gate Sunny Start Creamy Porridge for a while now and so far it has been a success, the first time I gave it to Jayden he was a bit confused by the different taste and texture and I was a bit concerned he wasn't going to like it, however after a couple of spoonfuls he loved it and now when you have given him one spoonful he smiles and kicks his legs for more, if I'm not quick enough for him he gets very frustrated and starts to shout for more.
I am happy feeding him this particular brand of porridge as I know that it does not contain any artificial chemicals and is something healthy for him to start the day with. This product is aimed at children from 4 to 6 months onwards so is perfect for your baby's first experience of solid food. I will certainly continue to purchase this for Jayden whilst he is getting used to solids as he really does enjoy it, he loves the taste of this and has got on extremely well with it since he has been having it for breakfast, I would certainly recommend this to anyone thinking of starting their baby on solid foods.
