Heinz Farley's Cauliflower & Broccoli Cheese
by haybel19
My little girl absolutely loves fruit but when we started to wean her she really was not keen on savoury purees. Consequently we tried a wide variety of savoury purees to encourage her and to help her to develop a taste for them. We would also buy several jars the same to enable her to have enough of each to get used to the individual ... tastes.
However we found that she was more willing to try savoury purees if she only had to eat a very small amount at a time (before getting her beloved fruit) to get used to the taste before building up to larger amounts. However with jars most of them can only be kept for up to 48 hours after opening as we found to give her sufficient variety this could be wasteful as she would literally only have a couple of spoonfuls per meal.
My mum suggested trying the packets of puree that you make up yourself by simply adding milk or water so on my next trip to Tesco's I picked up a few. Whilst Cow and Gate and other companies all seem to do cereal options, Heinz is the only one I've found that does the savoury ones and we have tried many of these all with great success.
The Heinz Cauliflower and Broccoli Cheese comes in 125g box and costs around £2. It is suitable from 4months. It has no added sugar, artificial colours or preservatives.
To make it up you simply add one spoonful of the product to 3 spoonfuls of warm previously boiled water. I tend to make it with boiling water and then allow it to cool which it does quite quickly. It so handy to be able to make up just the amount you need and avoids waste. I find that I can get around 8 servings from a box although obviously this would vary greatly according to portion size.
My daughter loves the taste of this and took to it straight away. It smells lovely once made up and smells exactly as you would expect Cauliflower and Broccoli Cheese to smell. As it is suitable from 4 months it is very smooth. I have tried this a few times too and it really does taste like Cauliflowers and Broccoli Cheese, it tastes so nice in fact that I would happily eat it!
Even though my daughter is now 8 months old and is onto stage 2 weaning products she does still have a side portion of this as she absolutely loves it. It is not bland like some baby foods and instead is very much full of flavour. In fact when I make Cauliflower and Broccoli Cheese I wish mine tasted like this.
Highly recommend. Read the complete review |

Heinz Mum's Own Mediterranean Vegetables with Chicken & Sweet Potato
by haybel19
Now my daughter is 8 months old she is using stage 2 weaning products, however she dislikes the lumpier chunkier textures and so we are always trying new purees to tempt her with, one of the latest being this one.
We have found the Heinz stage 2 weaning products to be slightly smoother and less lumpy than some of the other ... brands so they are a great stepping stone onto stage 2 products.
The Heinz Mediterranean Veggies Chicken and Sweet Potato comes in a 200g glass jar and cost around 90p as a stage 2 weaning product it is suitable from 7 months plus.
It is widely available in supermarkets, chemists and online. It is a stage 2 weaning product and counts as 2 of a baby's 5 a day fruit and vegetables. It has no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours and is low slat and gluten and egg free.
When you open the jar, unlike some baby foods which sometimes smell a little bit like dog food, this one smell very pleasant and very much like you would expect this dish to smell if served in a restaurant.
The puree itself is a dark orange colour with small pieces of vegetable, whilst it is much thicker and chunkier than stage 1 products my daughter found this much easier to eat than some of the other brands she has tried.
My daughter really liked the taste. Having tasted it myself it certainly does taste like Mediterranean vegetables however I could not pick out individual vegetables and could not taste the chicken. It does not taste like baby food and is actually quite nice.
The downside for us was that everything ended up stained orange, the baby, the bib, the highchair table (she is a messy eater). Thankfully the baby cleaned up well and no longer looks like an oompa loompa however the highchair table bib and where she managed to get it on her clothes have not and despite my very best efforts still remain stained even though they were cleaned immediately after feeding and several times since with various cleaning products.
I would recommend this but only if you are feeding your baby naked bar their nappy and only have disposable bibs etc. to hand and covering all surfaces of the highchair first... otherwise the price soon becomes expensive versus the damage by staining. A real shame as otherwise a lovely puree that my daughter enjoyed. Whilst many purees can stain this is by far the worst I've come across...

Heinz Farley's Golden Vegetables & Chicken
by haybel19
My daughter loves fruit and enjoys her veg but is less sure of the complete meal options, especially now we are trying to get her onto the stage 2 weaning products, now that she is 7 months old. She refuses the Cow and Gate stage 2 meal jars that we have tried, as she dislikes the thicker chunkier puree.
My mum suggested ... trying one of the meal that you make up yourself. I have been unable to find any in the Cow and Gate range so decided to try the Heinz Golden Vegetables and Chicken which is suitable from 7 months. It comes in a 100g box and does not contain any added sugar, artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. It is widely available in shops such as Tesco and online and costs around £2.
To make up you add three spoonfuls of boiled water to one spoonful of the mix. However this can be adjusted according to your baby's preferred consistency. I love that I can make up just the amount I need for each meal as this avoids waste. Once opened you can store the box/packet in a cool dry place and need to use within 6 weeks.
This is a stage 2 weaning product and is noticably thicker/lumpier than stage 1 products irerespective of brand however it is still smoother than the Cow and Gate stage 2 jars and so my daughter is much happier eating this, and we are treating it almost as a stop gap to gradually get her onto the thicker stage 2 products.
My daughter really enjoys the taste and happily eats this. Having tasted it myself I can only describe it as porridge like in consistency and appearance and it almost taste like porridge but with a mild hint of vegetables, although Im not sure I can detect the chicken.
It is not as easy as a jar, to take out and about with you, especially if like me your child will eat things even at room temperature and does not need them to be warmed. However it is excellent value as we tend to get 4-5 meals from a box.
Would highly recommend. Read the complete review |
