Aptamil is not for every baby (Aptimil Baby Food)

Advantages: Supposed to be the closest to breast milk

I'm writing this review to get across the point that every baby reacts differently to different formula.

My baby was on SMA Gold from birth. I never had any real issues with it apart from occasional constipation (by this I mean him not going for 2-3 days, not true constipation resulting in hard stools). However, all my friends who were breastfeeding or had gone from breast to bottle were all using Aptamil. It had also been recommended by a friend's mother who is a midwife, and when I looked up reviews online they were all singing the praises of Aptamil and saying how bad SMA Gold was. So when he was 4 weeks old I decided to switch as I thought it would be better for my baby.

Unfortunately switching was a bad move as Aptamil didn't agree with him at all. We had him on it for 6 days and in that time he turned from a contented, happy baby with the odd bout of wind, to a baby contorted in pain with excessive wind. The wind was so bad he was not sleeping well, and his poos were going right up his back with the force of it!

After 6 days I switched him back to SMA and he has been fine since.

This review is not to say Aptamil is bad because all my friends have a good experience with it, but to say that it isn't for everyone and if you are considering switching because it is supposed to be closer to breast milk then be aware of the reaction it MAY have.
