Advantages: Well in this case none
Disadvantages: gotta look for those splinters
As most new mums will know, you feel you have too buy the best for your baby - if you want a break from cooking your own food - I felt baby organix was the right choice to me at the time, bearing in mind its not exactly cheap! Everything was fine and I had been using it for about 4 months. Loads of different meals to choose from and very tasty, my son loved it. I bought a jar of fruity rice with chicken and apricots which is meant for 7mths plus,I thought it would make a nice change. I was spooning it into my babies mouth when I noticed a strange looking thing sticking out on the spoon, on closer inspection I thought it could be a piece of a fruit stalk as the jar contained apricots. I wrapped it up and sent it to organix customer services department. It took about 4 weeks for them to "investigate" the object, then I received a letter. It said they were sorry for the delay and that on closer investigation the object in question turned out to be "a potential splinter of wood" that had possibly come from the packaging material used for the transporting of raw materials!! They also sent a cheque for 10 pounds and a box with a few jars of food in it. Well as you can appreciate,I have no intention of ever feeding my child with the product again. I disposed of the jars of food they sent as I felt to scared to use it and sent back the cheque as this was an insult I felt. My son could have actually choked on this.I feel I should tell other parents about this as it was just luck that I spotted this splinter. I still cringe at the thought of what could have happened! I now use Hipp organic when I don't have time to cook my own meals for my son or if I'm out and about!! I find it a very high quality product. So in conclusion I rate organix a big fat zero. I know this may seem a bit harsh to some but I don't. I will also add that th
e reason I haven't included a lot of information on product availabilty, and variety is because I don't recommend this product to any parents.. I hope this is of some use to all parents out there who are thinking of buying this product... I feel they should be aware of the potential dangers. If you do decide to buy any of the product's by Baby Organix or are already using them then, maybe a little bit more care and attention to whats actually on the spoon will be called for!! After reading some of the comment's left on this opinion, I now think it would be wise to check all baby food, whether by Baby Organix or some other brand!! It really is scary to think what might be lerking in our jar's of baby food!! Definately a good advertisment for good home cooking!!

- 02/03/02 I too found something "foreign" in a jar of my sons food. It was a slither of plastic and all I received was a cheque to the value of £5. Disgusting. |

- 01/10/01 Sorry to hear about your experience and can understand why you will never use again but was probably one in a million chance and you can have mishaps with home cokked food, e.g.something falling in oan while cooking. |

- 04/07/01 I guess there is always a risk of "foreign objects" making their way into food. And we rely on the manufacturers to minimise this risk.
It could be that it was a complete one-off, the first time it has happened in a million jars.
Normally we shouldnt take a possibly isolated incident and extrapolate it to the product as a whole.
However, with babyfood the potential impact of such contamination is magnified a thousand-fold and therefore i think Organix is best avoided.
Their response to your letter seemed rather dispassionate, and this is the most worrying element of the whole saga.
Three cheers for passing on your experience, and three cheers to Dooyoo for making the sharing of important consumer experiences a possiblity. |
