Advantages: Taste is okay, convenient

Disadvantages: Can be costly; take advantage of the special offers

Cow & Gate Tasty Cottage Pie comes in a clear glass jar with a red lid. Cow and Gate colour code their lids so that you can see in an instant what sort of meal is inside, i.e red lid with a picure of a joint of meat indicates red meat; yellow lid with a picture of a 'chicken' drumstick indicates white meat... they have different symbols for just veg dishes, fish dishes etc. The jars label also shows 'stage 2 mostly mashed', which is another great way of seeing quickly if the meal would be suitable for your childs age/weaning stage.

The Cottage Pie itself doesn't smell too bad, but not like mummy's real cottage pie. The smell and consistency and appearance does change slightly when the food is heated though, my son prefers the meal heated.

It is packed with lumps of soft veg... the meat is a little scarce if you ask me, I couldn't actually visualise any 'browned' meat in the dish. My son eats it well but doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as homemade and this is one of his favourite dishes that I cook often at home.

The jars are great for convenient, quick and easy meals if you are busy or out a lot... I use these for when we are out and about as it is difficult to store home cooked until its required. The jars are stored at room temperature so no need for chilling. Once opened the jars can be keep in the fridge for upto 48 hours as long as the product is not heated more than once.

Handy to keep in, but I sometimes find that my son doesn't finish the jar so it seems a waste. The priced varies but they can often be picked up on special offers at Boots' or supermarkets, 5 for £2.50, that sort of deal.
